Selling Privately Not much happening!

Have you got a link to your advert MWCLS (or have I missed it?)

I have Lee, i will put the link up. I thought as much being a private seller, selling the car with no known faults covers me as a private seller.

Good point, but know i have dropped the price i wouldn't even with a warranty put the price back up. I wouldn't buy a car just because a private seller stuck a warranty on it and asked £xxx more.

Infairmess most after market warranties have so many get out clauses they arent worth the paper they are written on!
Completely agree, but if this reassures a buyer, then give them the option. Not costing you anything & the warranty will be registered between the buyer & the warranty company.

Maybe me being cynical, if someone was saying they were a private seller offered me a warranty included in the sale. I would auto think they are relatedto trade in some way.

90% of my cars i have bought private never had a warranty or one was offered or implied. I made it my business with the owners consent to do my own legwork, inspections with the owners consent.

You have to remember that everyone is different.

Don't offer the warranty unless asked for it, like in the case that you have just had had.

I know the car is a good one so its a quandary. Give it away for peanuts. Keep it and Sorn as i just don't use it whilst it depreciates month after month.. bit like most cars i guess!

Cars are always worth more to the seller than the buyer. That's life

My thought is that aspiring purchasers are being put off by the £500 pa road tax.

Its just within the bracket for both time and emissions factors. Either 6 months older or 17 inch wheels put it in band K and the difference is probably significant to someone buying a car for circa £5k. Its a psychological thing, you could get a far more powerful car for the same annual tax.

More knowledgeable ones would also worry about the M272 issues from 2006.

Other than dropping this bit - "No Canvassing please or TYRE KICKERS" - your advert looks fine as does the price so it might be simply a case of holding your nerve.

Have you put an advert on here?

Car does look stunning by the way.

Thanks Lee, yes the Canvassing and Tyre Kickers a little dated as ads go.

You could... at this price most of the most powerful cars have had the sh!te knocked out of them dodgy repairs and probably not maintained how they should be. There will always be the exception. £5 a week extra road tax... if you like a car. If that puts you off!?

Look at you E55k CLS5k / 63 guaranteed youll need to spend on repairs almost immediately.

The M272 issue doesnt bother me in the slighest neither did the sbc or airmatic. If you cant afford to run one of these and have funds for the unexpected. Dont buy.

All marques will have their own weak points.

I think that you're failing to realise that a buyer doesn't need to buy this specific car & is open to a market of lots of different opportunities.

You do have a nice car, but this mentality where it is suggested that there's no better car than this one would also put me off as a buyer. Most sellers play to the same tune, let the buyer decide if it is the right car for them, in comparison to others.

Had I been out in the market for a petrol CLK & known that I could have a 55 over 280 with the same road tax cost, for an additional couple of k, it would be a serious consideration point.

But then most would be informed on the running costs CLK280 maintenence is considerably less than a 5.5 kompressor. Either way if your novice buyer wants to spend his or her last penny just the car with no money aside for say a airmatic strut.. again imo they are running before they can walk.

Mine has also just gone on eBay...

Had an offer of £5k politely refused..

Mercedes CLK 320 CDi Sport | eBay

Its seemingly a tough market 5k is peanuts. But infairness you said you would take 5,800 or keep another year. I would have taken the money and run. Saying that the 3.0 derv is a great engine and your CLK is a nice colour combination. My CLS was Tanzanite with Cashmere.

Thanks bud. I'm not in any particular rush to sell it. The drive on it is effortless and it's extremely comfortable. The bodywork is mint as well on her. Iv been looking at 13 plate E350 CDI Sports hence why I'm looking at selling this...

My mother in law has a C207 Coupè 15 reg 250 d AMG Line 15,000 miles. Im not a fan of the 4 pot but it goes well.

She went into MB looking to PX they offered 8k less than she was expecting that was px against a facelft latest model. Shocking!

It has to be a V6 diesel for me. The 4 pot diesels sound too agricultural for my liking...though I suppose the twin turbo C250 is a decent unit.

Nobel prize winning Economics

Cars are always worth more to the seller than the buyer. That's life

It's a bona fide subject in Economics. Akerlof, Michael Spence, and Joseph Stiglitz received the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 2001, for their research related to asymmetric information in the markets - i.e. the difference between the Seller's and Buyer's knowledge.
