Selling Privately Not much happening!

Everyone wants a deal... as cheap as possible whether it be a new S class or a 11 year old CLK.

Unless money isnt something you watch or think about.

I think it maybe right that the CLK may simply have been forgotten about by people....

As for the facelift E46 Sport coupe, iv had a few 330's and they were great cars even today they look nice...

I think the market for the E46 coupe is much greater than the CLK..

My thoughts.

That's a shame because it's such a nice car. I suppose though that it's good news for a discerning buyer. It reminds me of Saab convertibles. Dirt cheap and good cars.
It is a beautiful car, there just isn't enough awareness for it.

Had a perspective buyer seen an e46 with w209 side by side, I know which one would be chosen!

My mother in law has a C207 Coupè 15 reg 250 d AMG Line 15,000 miles. Im not a fan of the 4 pot but it goes well.

She went into MB looking to PX they offered 8k less than she was expecting that was px against a facelft latest model. Shocking!

Do you think the poor p/ex offer was due to the potential bottom falling out of diesel car sales due to the possible increase in diesel taxation coming along?

That depends, what was she expecting? The amount of buyers out there with blissfully unrealistic expectations of their current PX value is considerable, especially as at 2 years old it's still in a pretty steep depreciation curve.

That would explain low prices (good value) for all CLKs for sale, but doesn't explain why this model is attracting little or the wrong type of interest.

Usually if a car for sale doesn't get much interest, and assuming that it's not in poor condition or a ridiculous colour, then it's safe to assume that it's too expensive.

Even cars in poor condition and ridiculous colours sell if the price is right.

Sorry if that's not what the OP wants to hear.

This is exactly the case for me. I totally forget about them and what they look like.

When SPX recently bought one, I saw the W209 and all that springs to mind is a W208 and then I see a picture and the penny drops (again). This happens every time.

Oh, and I am with you on the E39 being way better looking than the W210 btw.

Night and day! E39 is timeless. W210 looks like the W211's poorer cousin.

The problem is with selling private....there`s too many muppets / chancers out there. It really p****s me off. I put my Scooby up for 8k....was offered 5.5k by a dealer....really?

I recently had my ST up with a STARTING bid of 6k (to generate interest) with a reserve price. First message I had, "hi mate, I see you have your ST up for 6k, if I can come up with 5.5k would you sell?"

I have sold quite a number of cars and bikes privately over the past few years ranging from £30k SUV's to £3k, ten year old Mercedes C180k with 125k miles.
I try to take the best photos I can, (I'm no David Bailey) choose a time at which people may be looking for that sort of vehicle....and most importantly price them realistically.
That doesn't mean trade price, just lower than you can buy the same thing on a shiny forecourt. Then I made sure they were as clean and tidy as they could be, not difficult as I simply will not drive a 'skip'
Guess what? They have all sold to the first veiwer....that's the last 8 vehicles:thumb:
Did I sell them too cheap? No, just at a price people are prepared to pay.:dk:

Totally, the E39 is Sport guise with the 18" M Para wheels is a thing of beauty. Iv had five of them over the years and I wouldn't think twice about having another..

I'm biased because I had a Y reg Alpina B10 V8 in Japan Red but it was an awesome car - this was my one albeit posted up by the subsequent owner to me:

Alpina-Archive | Car Profile: BMW Alpina B10 V8 #067/1

It was a toss up between that and a Y reg 540iA in Imola Red.

Wonderful cars.

Love Alpina's
My mate inherited his dads after he died. It was an 85 or 86 and a flying machine. His father was from Northern Ireland and the plate was RJI 5351 with the 1 looking like an i.

When I bought my Cosworth he then sold it to buy a TVR Griff. In about 1992 IIRC.

Yeah, that's the old E34. I liked them too.

The twin turbos must have been quite something back in their day compared to its peers.

That combined with the facelift.

Its good to read everyone thats contributed to the thread perspective.

Not wanting to hear doesn't come into it.

It may be a forgotton model, looking on AT some are a little to cheap. Need the cash? Impatience? Hiding something?

When i sold a late E46 M3 in 2012 the market was slow the car was a marmite colour but low miles. I spent a fortune on cleaning products and the oem + bug over my ownership. It wanted for nothing. It sold for asking. The E46 M3 ( a good one) seem to be on the up. I know chalk and cheese.

It only takes one buyer who will see what a gem this CLK is, i have no doubts it will sell.

I never went out looking for a CLK same with the M3.. ironically i was looking at that time for a CLK 55 Convertible!

Ive always sold to the first buyer. This time i had a looker with the CLK. I've sold 5 cars in the last year ?( I am not a trader) 2 × W203 * one a Coupe 1 x C219 1 x W204 saloon and helped a good friend sell his 63 reg X6 4.0d. No drama's altbough the BMW was hard to shift. I guess that would relate to most looking at those cars going new.

The photo thing, im clearly no david Bailey but you get the general idea. I have no doubt the CLK will sell very soon.

Five cars in a year?? Any particular reason or do you just like to change soon?
