Selling Privately Not much happening!

Would suggest a bunch of good quality images posted on line would help generate more interest.

make sure the car is clean, remove all the crap from inside and Vac, don't post images that have lens flare, camera shake or other issues. you can gat good images from a phone but consider a tripod to remove shake and use the self timer. don't forget images of the interior, include snaps of options, command, parktronic, memory seat switches, heated seats.

Good luck with the sale.

Don't forget to make sure that your Missus is draped over the bonnet in her undies, never fails.

The CLK just doesn't have enough awareness out in the market.

This could be a good thing for current owners, the car is not as popular or common, however when it comes to resale, you could be faced with low demand.

I don't think that the lack of demand comes from the car being outdated, it is just the fact that there is little to no awareness of the car in general market. The equivalent BMW e46 has far greater awareness, therefore people would always search for those on used car websites.

In reality, the w209 is far superior to an e46, but how do you get that awareness out to the buyers who are searching for an e46.... I don't know...

I also think that the market demand for big engined petrol variants is low.

I've wondered about a very late CLK350 convertible, but am told that the body flex would be surprisingly noticeable, so thus far have not driven one. They look lovely from the outside but the interior I think is a real let down, with so-so styling.

124s and 210s both superior for internal styling in my book

Good luck selling the CLK280 - as people have said just be patient

I had a late E46 M3 chalk and cheese .. i understand what your saying a 330ci a comparable.imo they look dated now. The Non M variant.

You will struggle at 6k, that's at least 1k overpriced IMO.
I'd say it's about right at 6k, but then again I'm not following market values currently. There's little choice of the 320cdi clk's in general & this one is also in a rare colour combination.

But there's more folk looking for the e46 imo, just because more common & well known.

Maybe i should edit my ad mentioning the boot floor cracking on the E46 i had mine replaced by BMW as goodwill 6k job! They crack around subframe mounts.

As mentioned, CLK is far superior, but I only came across my CLK by the chance, was actually looking for a 330cd. So glad I came across the CLK, totally different league.

So the challenge is to get someone serious to come & view it.

Plenty of interest, would you take £4k circa via email, how much is the road tax. FFS if you can't be ar$ed to read the tech specs ... I would like to move the car on so open to sensible offers. Call me old fashioned i have always viewed a car i am interested in before any negotiations on price etc. These enquiries i disregard.

I had a chancer view the car wasted over an hour of my time, offered the asking price but wanted a warranty for 6 months and if any issues occur in the first 6 months of ownership he could return the car for a full refund. I told him to go to MB and purchase a new car.. he may struggle with the cash back after 6 months.

I know the car is a good one so its a quandary. Give it away for peanuts. Keep it and Sorn as i just don't use it whilst it depreciates month after month.. bit like most cars i guess!

I think all buyers are covered by some sort of law, where if the item purchased is faulty within the six months of purchase, it could be taken up (through court) to say that the issue was there prior to purchase - not sure if this applies to used cars & how many actually claim.

Out of interest, have you explored the option of warranty, if it's a couple hundred & means that you will get the asking price, I'd be inclined to offer that with the car.

There also has to be an expectation that some work needs to go into the sale, politeness & answers to reasonable questions don't cost anything but give the buyer much more trust in the seller.

I can put a warranty on the car around £300 pounds for a 3 month warranty. Infairmess I'm not a trader if i were i asking more money for the car. I had the car checked at my MB indy via star no stored faults. He went over the car and couldnt find any problems. I also had the idler tensioner replaced as it was chirping on and off at a cost if £220.. i never skimp on my cars or run them on a shoe string hence me having spent £1,200 getting the car to my standards. After purchasing it last September.

When i was lookihg lastvyear the amt of ' perfect' CLK advertised amazed me bouncing door locks and oil leaks unadressed with a offer to knock £50.00 off to fix any issues .. laughable.

I tend to spend on a car make it mechanically and bodywork wise very good then feel compelled to sell! I spent thousands on my CLS the buyer couldnt fault it and didnt even try to haggle. Like wise with the M3 it was a really clean car.

Id rather sell to someone who would have the same mindset. Unfortunately these are few and far between as the guy who purchased my M3 stuck it in a ditch after turning the T/C off and giving it beans ... run out of talent. It was fixed up and sold on last i heard if it. I had that car 4 years so was weirdly sad to see it like that.

If you're a private seller and make no attempt to appear otherwise, these buyers expecting a warranty are on another planet!!

Cars sold second hand privately are 'sold as seen' with no warranty implied. Yes if someone can prove that an issue was definitely there when the car was sold then worst case they try that angle but I can't imagine that's likely.

Good luck with the sale though. I guess all you can do is adjust the price according to the market and hold out for the right buyer.

That only applies to trader sales, any buyer who thinks they will get a warranty from a private seller is not quite compos mentis.

Likewise, good to see that there are people who look after their cars, not many left though...

What I meant, if for the sake of £300 you sell the car for a price that you're happy with, it's a no brainer. If the buyer mentions warranty, put the offer in 6k with warranty or 5.7k without or 6.3k with & 6k without if your not prepared to go down.

Good point, but know i have dropped the price i wouldn't even with a warranty put the price back up. I wouldn't buy a car just because a private seller stuck a warranty on it and asked £xxx more.

Infairmess most after market warranties have so many get out clauses they arent worth the paper they are written on!
