Shameful admission..

How can you possibly compare a VW CC to a CLS  The CLS is twice the price of the Passat and in a different league altogether, The cc is in the family car market not the large exec, the only comparison to be drawm IMHO is the styling

the passat CC is definatley NOT in the family car market! - it didn't even have five seats until now and even still, it's an option! - it is quite clearly pushed at the jnr exec / fleet market - put it up against a c-class / 3-series / A4 and it does very well in terms of spec, cost, running costs comfort etc - it's based on the A6 platform and feels at least as big as an A6 inside - it's a lovely car - nothing like the 'regular' Passat (which itself is quite a nice car, i'm not trying to put it down - but the CC is a notch above imo!)

If I could have got one similar age / mileage as my C220cdi for the same money I'd have had it - but despite being a cheaper car to start with - they were a lot more money for a 2 year old one!

The CC is firmly aimed to compete against the Mondeo Insignia high end rep brigade no way is it up against C/ A4/ 3 series junior execs not in the same class IMHO.

It was originally based on the VAG group A platform for compact and mid size cars, the APQ46 to be exact which is nothing like the Group C platform the A6, A8 and Phaeton were built on. The platforms have now switched to MHB, MQB and MLB. but the CC is still not on the same platform as the A6

I'm not knocking the car at all I have driven quite a few and I agree it is a step up from the normal Passat but interior plastics are no where near as classy as a Mondeo Titanium and not In BMW league, my point was drawing a comparison against a CLS was unfair a better comparison would have been against an A5

You have missed a big point there Ian. The fact that a VW Passat is being mentioned in the same breath as a CLS shows you how far VW have come in the last decade.
I'm not a fan of them myself, aswell as everyone I know thinking they are the 'new shaped Passat':dk:, but whatever floats your boat.

I think the point of my thread has been lost slightly. I never seriously looked at the CC as a direct comparison or an alternative buy to a CLS. That would be silly and unfair to the CC!

It was the shape of the CC that initially caught my eye as being very similar. albeit smaller and less "exotic" looking than the CLS. I tried it mostly out of curiosity as I didn't expect it to be all that inside and to drive - but, it surprised me and IF I was in the market for that type of car, it would be on my list. I would honestly say that up against the C class, 3 series or A4, it stacks up very well...

And my point exactly in Post #40

@ Sweetpea you are quite right VW have come a long way, they have always been good solid German cars with well above average build quality.
