Hi All started to get a strange chirping noise from the N/S of the dash/glove box began checking it and it stopped!! next day same thing seems to be only when the blower motor is on and is very intermittent thinking it may be blower motor i lifted the bonnet removed the air intake grid only to discover a large pool of water at the bottom of the plastic ventilation chamber!!! having had blocked drain tubes with previous car i prodded around looking for the top of a drain tube but to no avail!!! im assuming there must be one somewhere at present i have used a sponge to soak up the water any one come across this before or know where the drain tubes are?? since removing the water i have not heard the chirping noise probably a coincedence feel sure its somthing to do with the blower motor i've had no water coming in the car may have just caught it in time the car is a 2004 sl350 r230 model...... any advice greatly appreciated simon.....

I think you are on the right tracks, although I can't really speak knowlingly wrt the SL.

Both my previous W202 and W203 C Class cars had water ingress to the fan housing caused by blocked drain tubes (it is also a classic time of the year for this to occur with all the falling leaves causing blockages/restrictions). On these cars the drain tubes on the sides were just below the bonnet hinges. The W203 had a third central drain tube which emptied into a cavity that subsequently drained to the sides.

Sorry not to be of more direct assistance though :(

Regards,

Alex

Cheers Alex i will have a look around the hinges at the weekend Simon..
