SL350 stuck in Park. New aux battery fitted.

Hi folks,

My wonderful and thus far super-reliable 2007 SL350 has been stuck in Park for 5 weeks after the Aux battery ran down over the winter (or perhaps, more accurately, after I let it run down!)

I've replaced it with a new one and charged the new one too as it was at 12.5 and it's now at 13.49

I've also removed and recharged the starter battery

I put in the starter then the aux which I believe is the correct order and...

The red battery light is still on the moment I turn the key, she's still in Park and the generic code reader finds nothing wrong.

I've also tentatively tried whacking the stick out of park to no avail.

Help please!

You need a proper diagnostic test.

Pretty much guesswork without getting the car hooked up to Star. Does the car actually start? Just had alternator replaced on our SL350 stashed over the winter after whole dash lit up red with battery alternator and brake failure lights came up but car started and shifter not stuck. Could it be as simple as brake light switch failure?

I believe there is a manual release button for stuck shifters on Park.
