Hi

The girlfriends SLK230 1996 has always returned circa 30mpg - In recent weeks we've noticed a dramatic drop to circa 20/22 mpg -

I dont sense a petrol leak but just wondering if anyone has seen similar issues with this motor ? Or do I need to book into MB dealer for a diag test ?

Thanks
Pete

Possibly the MAS sensor. Lots of threads about this and how it can adversely affect economy when its on the way out.

Best of luck getting it fixed!

Yep MAS sounds like a likely suspect.

Llambda sennsor?

It needs proper diagnosis really

Yeah Thanks for info all - Gonna get our local independant specialist to look at it - John Griffiths in Reading - They have the kit and should be more reasonably priced than a merc dealer

Cheers

It is the only way to go with so many parameters and maybes

Sounds like you're very close to my neck of the woods - I work in Reading.

If you don't have any luck with John Griffiths (they are a bit hit and miss in my experience), try Star Motors also in Caversham. I'd recommend them.

Hi

Yeah based in Lower Earley - Thanks for tip on the Star Motors - never used them before - may give it a go

Thanks

Pete

Sure it's not just the cold weather, richer cold running and some heavy shoes combined with a car full of heavy Christmas presents!!:D
