Some Moron drove into my car

On a roundabout, one lane goes left, one right. I go right and he comes across from the left lane and takes out the front of my car

Bumper, wing, wheel and headlight seem to be toast.........

He wants to pay for it but I suspect it will go through insurance. I have my doubts even though he has accepted liability as he will no doubt argue I drove into the side of him which given the damage could be plausible.

No witnesses as he didn't stop for about a mile 'as he felt it was unsafe'

I was pretty much where the silver Fiesta was when he came in from my left. I was aware of him on my left as he pushed down the left side of a single lane road leading to the roundabout but I anticipated him going left.

I feel your pain Simon.

Whatever you do, involve your insurance.

Well I am thinking that, but I will get screwed on the renewal regardless....

You may get screwed completely if you try it the "gentleman's agreement" way .

Sadly true... he's probably already contacted the police and his insurer, blaming you.

Check he is actually insured, as well.

Cheers guys, yes the car shows as insured. I checked it was taxed at the scene as that is normally an indicator.

He stopped in a bus stop and I am half expecting a ticket for that as well

Rotten luck, Simon.

If you were in the position of the silver Fiesta, wouldn't that mean that the other driver drove over the hatched markings?

In that sort of situation I'd have my camera phone out to take pictures, with the only objective being to include an image of the driver in at least one of them. I did that (looking as though taking vehicle pictures) when I bought a quadbike in Leeds for Olly. The guy selling it looked dodgy, so at least I had a picture of him.

Another idea would be to (unnoticed if possible) start the video mode on the phone (perhaps before getting out of the car) so that you have a recording of the conversation and maybe even filming if the camera could be pointed in the right direction. Any admission of fault or offer to pay for the repairs would then be on record.

Good luck.

Driving standards are appalling-especially in the 1.5 million uninsured morons on the road!:wallbash:

I would have thought that uninsured motorists drove even more carefully than the insured ones!

Looks like a single lane, admittedly a wide single lane, on that road approaching the RA.

Sorry to hear that Simon, hope everyone was OK.

A tactic from the Daily Telegraph motoring writer that I thought rather clever:

If he tries the "you drove into me" stunt then write to him reminding him that he has already admitted liability regardless of what he subsequently writes on his insurance report form.
If he insists on this course of action tell him you will pursue him through the courts for your financial loss and he will be required to repeat in a court of law that his statement that was not to blame. You will force him in court to admit that he initially admitted blame. If he denies this he will be committing perjury, which is an imprisonable offence.

For me that's quote of the week :thumb:

You've never watched Road Wars then?

Yes, that thought crossed my mind.

The same people who don't care about not having insurance are the same thickos who don't care about anything - especially hitting your car.

Simon, very sorry to hear about this. Why is it the wally drivers end up ok and we end up paying! BTW whether or not you claim you have an obligation to report the incident to your insurance company. I hope you got something in writing on the liability front. I recently learnt that if you call your insurance company on the spot and the other driver admits fault on the phone to them then you are done with establishing liability. Hope all is well soon with no hassle.

Hi

I am going to throw a spanner in the works here but if you are taking the second exit from a roundabout (as he was?) what lane should you be in?

Not questioning you, just teasing out possible scenarios

In this case it looks like a single lane approach to a single lane roundabout.
