I got my car in December and the one thing I was always concerned about was someone nicking the star. So I came out Monday morning very early so still dark and notice the star at a funny angle, so got out to straighten it up and I thought oh well I will just change it for flat one, at least there is no other damage.

However on closer inspection, there is a perfectly formed circle around the badge obviously where they had it flat and rotated it luckily enough it wasnt through to the metal so should polish out - however where the middle of the star touched the bonnet there is a chip out of the paint to the metal.

Im so ****** about this, I cant believe that some scrote thinks they have the right to even touch the damm thing. Im 25 myself so not exactly old but when i grew up i would never dream of doing something like this. Just kind of shows what kids are like - these kids grow up on the dole, live in social housing, steal, have 4 kids with 4 different women which are all kept by the tax payer, rape the benefits system, in and out of prison etc etc. Then their kids end up the same way and the circle goes on and on and on.

I live by a canal and if i ever caught anyone trying to remove the star i would literally throw them in it.

To me I would operate some kind of 3 strike system, end up with 3 police cautions and lose your benefits.

Sorry about the rant but im so annoyed about this especially havin to get the bonnet painted.

So sorry Andy to hear of yet another one.

I wish that MB had made one that was easier to detach so that one could take it away at night when parked up

ah sorry to hear it. the world is full of people like this, all envying our Mercedes BENZ!!

Its crap innit?
About 7 years ago my pride & joy was a blue black 2.0 109E. I went through 4 stars in 12 months.
One one occasion I had a knock at my front door, a middle aged guy was stood there with his son, apparently he had found a star in his sons bedroom & got this kid to tell him where he had stolen it from, my car! He dragged his son the 200 yards from his house to mine to get him to apologise to me & promise it wouldnt happen again. Asked me how much a replacement was ( I think they were about £14 from German & Sweedish) & gave me £20. I felt really sorry for this kid in the end, he was so teary & ashamed but not as embarrassed has his dad.............a member of C.I.D from Doncaster police station!!!

hi my name is ibrar, and im a mb star-aholic

Hey Andy, well done for the restraint - I'd be all up for amputations of hands / arms for first offences, obviously the reoffending rate would be sharply reduced after the second offence. ;)

Ian.

What would be a great idea is that the star goes down into the engine bay/bonnet when the engine is switched off, and then comes up when started. Im suprised merc hasnt already thought of this or applied it, i think its royals royce or bentley that have this on their cars.

Thanks for the replies - think im going to go for the ghetto mod and save money on constantly repairing the bonnet all the time.

I know how frustrating it is, although I personally haven't had one nicked, my broher has had two done. And it's not nice, not only the hassle, the money, it's just the thought if some scum or other touching your car and thinking they can get away with it, which unfortunately they do 'cos there isn't much you can do....

this may seem very stupid to say,one of the many reasons i changed from a c-class (w203) to a clk was because of the badge, I would always worry about somebody ripping it off and damaging the vehicle ,some kid with nothing better to do!!!!! Ive got to agree with the frustration however........

I really used to worry about it (both of my previous cars had some evidence of stars being stolen) but thankfully never had a problem myself.

I think it's such a shame to remove it as the ornament is really part of the car and one of the many endearing features of the less sporting models. Being forced to not have one would be a real shame IMO.

There are a couple of nice cars down my road that miraculously have never lost their stars, even the night that my Astra lost its kerbside door mirror along with just about every other car on my side of the road. (Hence the tongue in cheek reference to amputations as a penalty...)

The whole Beastie Boys thing has somewhat died and I think that this kind of vandalism is actually pretty uncommon now, but I definately share your pain. :(

Ian.

Sorry to hear bout that! I have my car previously vandalised as well! They scratched up my boot lid really badly! Its a really frustrating situation to be in as i have been there as well!

On a similar note, during the heavy snow we had here a few weeks back my car was out in the street and was impossible to drive up a small slope into my driveway because of frozen solid snow, so just decided to leave it untill it had all melted.

One thing kids like to do is gather snow from various flat ares of the car to make snowballs, eg boot, bonnet roof etc.

I could see them doing this in a "stroking" fashion and didnt want to start a hole big argument about it because it may have seemed petty, but now everywhere where the snow has been swept off there are scratches.

Only thinking of it now the snow was so thick that you couldnt see my bonnet star, how lucky was i that it didnt get ripped off in the process.

All this aside, i love snow :)

I tend to remove the snow on the bonnet before they get to it to avoid that being done,as for the stuff on the roof if I can't reach to wash it they're hardly likely to reach any snow.Only a flat badge on the bonnet so no problem there either;)
As for my other merc that goes in the garage after some local turd thought it alright to score a large swastika in the passenger side window, too deep to polish out so I went down to the breakers for some more glass:mad:

I know the feeling. Its the empty sick feeling you get, it ends up feeling very personal. The best thing to do is get is all sorted and just forget about it. Worry is like a rocking chair. . . . . . . . . Lots of effort but gets you nowhere.

It's only a car.

Actually, I'm so paranoid about leaving mine (my first MB after years of having company cars) that I hardly use it. It's ridiculous really, but it just sits on the drive. I'm particularly terrified of supermarket and multi-story car parks, in case the doors get dented.

It's a very annoying thing to happen and thank goodness the fad of stealing car badges has died down.

On a lighter note I can personally vouch for Scumbag, he's an alright type of geezer and would never harm, or damage a Mercedes-Benz.

Regarding the up and downy crests on Royal vehicles
I have no idea what Her Majesty's latest vehicle might do, but all previous vehicles are ALWAYS garaged over night in a secure building and either the Spirit of Ecstacy removed by the driver (distrusting lot) or if it is the Queen's vehicle then this is removed:

It would need a fairly big hole for that there horse to be devoured
