Someone just hit my car!

Hmm...that didn't answer my question, but never mind. I'll have to assume its at the flywheel then.

Well it must be as that engine is never going to push 226 Bhp at the wheels without some serious modifications, which would stop it idleing at normal revs which it appears to do without any problem, or a turbo, which hasn't been mentioned.

In normal driving conditions this exhaust is only a few decibels higher than a normal exhaust - which I might add would make a noise if revved too high!

If that's just a general comment OK. If it's a measured result, don't forget that decibels are a logarithmic measurement. It only takes a few decibels for a sound source to be twice as loud.

Oh how some people can take a joke comment too literally and seriously:mad:

As far as I know it's a free country and I was quite entitled to offer an opinion on those inconsiderates who seem to think that loud cars are their prerogative even if it infringes on other people's equal rights to peace and quiet.

Whether or not it was meant to be in jest doesn't really change that.

<<In normal driving conditions this exhaust is only a few decibels higher than a normal exhaust>>

Three decibels would be about double the power - so I take it this was figure of speech rather than actuals.

I am sure that ludicrously loud cars and bikes are only part of the horrendous noise pollution that exists there, as in other big cities.

Frankly, no. As I said, traffic noise is not really an issue for normal traffic. I can't think of much other noise problems here.

But really this is again besides the point. Why would I have to move to the countryside so that some asocial people can make a racket here?

I wasn't particularly upset, but if you think that forums only exist for those that agree with you, you better be prepared for more arguments.

Absolutely NO TURBO. The reason he is able to get such a large increase out of his car without FI is that the M52 engine in his BMW was artificially restricted at the factory via the intake to meet German insurance legislation. By fitting an intake, exhaust, superchipped ECU, enlarge intake manifold as well as other mods, an increase of 30 hp was easily possible. He has, however, hit his limit now and only FI will make any large increase.

The reason he has this power is he is a qualified racing instructor and uses his car sometimes on track days - NEVER ON THE ROAD!

Not being niggly but I heard a rolling road can do 6 months worth of engine wear in one session, does anyone know if this is true?!

I wouldn't hold with that, unless the engine overheated on the rollers due to lack of cooling airflow.
Never do more than a couple of runs though as that will cause heat soak to be too high.

Thanks ;)

I'm not intending on taking mine though, but just heard it from someone and advised "against" it.

Back in the early days of public dyno availability, there were a few cowboys in the market whose treatment of engines probably gave rise to this.

However, nowadays it's a much more professional business...I know of at least one that will go through a basic fluids and running gear check before the car goes anywhere near the rollers...

I don't think anyone questioned why he wanted more power though? Merely where the figures were coming from, and what was done to generate them.
