SPECS speed cameras and bikes

Way back in 2000-2001 the Chief Inspector for Cambridgeshire was interviewed after they had spend £XXXXXX on Truvo cameras (front facing cameras).

He was asked "What about Motorbikes, they have no front plate"

He replied:

"We do not belive that Motorcyclist speed"

What a good lad he was........
He deserves a "Nana" :bannana:

Well he should move county North to Lincolnshire for a mind changing experience. He will be hard pressed to travel in an unmarked vehicle without being overtaken by a motorcyclist exceeding the speed limit on nearly every journey.

If memory serves me right, our luvverly Government are currently pushing through rear-facing Specs and further new generations of average speed cameras that will well and truly f**k us all over!!!

Oh, and as a biker myself, I do tend to ignore Specs when on two wheels but my speed would never be 'excessive' and will always allow for the conditions, traffic etc.

I have a simple rule - never be the fastest vehicle!

Noticed on the A38 outside of Plymouth that the SPECS cameras mounted overhead point both ways, one covering approaching traffic and the other exiting traffic. Could this be intended for our biker friends ?

Don't think so - I believe the rear facers haven't got type-approval yet - I may be wrong though! (Wouldn't be the first time!)

It would not surprise me asfor yearsthis force has been funded to carry out research and development on numerous items of equipment.

The Saltash Tunnel has had SPEC camera equipment installed for many, many years, but untilthis items get approval then who cares who speeds :)

My thoughts are that if the prosecution cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt, who was driving\riding a motor vehicle, then they should not prosecute. If a burglar, murderer or rapist has this right then I feel it only fair we road users have the same rights. If the Hamilton's can get away with speeding offences then so should we all :)

But why let the law get in the way of an easy prosecution against law-abiding people!

We live in a society that is just completely in the wrong direction.....

Is there any law, specifically excluding car drivers from wearing a crash helmet?

My wife and I were driving the car on that date, we are both named drivers, and we shared the driving

Itwas not my car, my car was in our garage, on our driveway, parked outside our house.

Having said that... If you commit the crime then be prepared to serve the time :)

SPEC cameras have made a huge and very significant impression in getting speeds down in the area they operate. There has also been a MAJOR, major drop in speeding prosecutions in those same areas.

There are ways to avoid prosecution but hey ho... Isn't there always

Don't believe so. But if it affected your vision (tinted visor etc.) they could possibly get you for that.

Heres one for you, my business is related to the building trade, our van collects the workers and materials and off they go to a site. Rear facing camera catches the van speeding at approx mid day when they should all be working on site. However, we know that quite often, the site agent will ask us to do some work not planned for, so it involves one of the gang paying a trip to either the local builders merchant or maybe even going to get a pint of milk or collecting materials from the yard or even lunch. All our drivers on that day deny driving the van, we check collection records from our suppliers, nothing, so we are unable to identify the driver. We have records of who drove the van home the previous day and who drove it home that night, but our three drivers deny driving it. The company end up in court and are fined over £900 for failing to keep records. Now, how many of you out there have vans with multi drivers who keep records for every minute of the day that van is on the road?

I bet you keep a record now.........

Here's another one - hypothetical this time though.

What would happen in this case?

Your car breaks down half-way through the roadworks on the M1 between J25 and J28 - all SPECS controlled. Your car is subsequently recovered on the back of an AA flatback wagon. The wagon fails to adhere to the limit, and the cameras pick YOUR number plate off the back of the wagon, not the wagon's (separate point - can SPECS pick up more than one number from each vehicle passing????). Several days later and you get the fixed penalty notice...

And if you do not commit the crime? are you still prepared to serve the time?
