Looking at some wheels at present for cars and wonder what the likely cost of refurbishing some genuine split rims to a good standard (painted not diamond cut) would be? Recommendations welcome too!

BJV Engineering

They are in Herts and will collect in a 40 mile radius.

Done loads of wheels for me.

I would avoid split rims if possible. The refurbish cost will be higher, they have a chance of leaking and the additional mass of the bolts adds weight to the circumference of the wheel.

These are three piece, which does look a bit on the expensive side to do.

If you have some tools and heat gun you can take them apart and let shop refurb the parts. This would be cheaper. Use Loctite Studlock and torque wrench to put them back together.

There's one very big flaw in that otherwise cunning plan Alx. Me.

charles are you talking about the lovely w201 amg 16" 3-piece splits that just sold on ebay?
ive had qoutes for full refurb split repaint centre's and inners,re polish outers and new bolts and seal for 500 big ones.

I'm with DM and I'd avoid. Refurb costs of split rims are high and very rarely work most people I know who have refurbed them have sold the on within a very short space of time.

Tempting though they were, I have a nice AMG monoblock set for my 190 (now if I could find some EVO 1s). I was thinking of a BBS split rim for my XM, but I can't justify the expense.

3 piece split rims do look great but can definately be more trouble than they are worth.also a right pain to clean unless you keep on top of them.2-piece are much easier but dont always pull off the look.

That's the way to go, they just look right on the 190 (225/45's). Not too difficult to find either, Mercman in Southampton usually is worth a call & leaving a search notification on eBay (R129 rather than EVO) could very well throw up a set for sale. As for split rims, I've had a couple of sets, none really suited the 190 imo, also as mentioned a pain to keep in good order and sometimes difficult to get a single used replacement.
