Spring Compressor - Club Buy?

Put me down in the queue Jimmy... I wont need them 'till I source some new springs/shocks but if you want some money up front to cover yourself then let me know.

How much will postage be on those things? They must weigh a ton!

I have some pictures, will upload them later.

No rush guys, I have them now so they will always be available.

What I am thinking is £45 rental and £5 postage, it is in a case, a bit bigger than a laptop and about the same weight. I would also like a deposit from people I dont know of £100, nothing personal but I just forked out over £200.

This is what the fuss was all about. :D

These are the spring pads that sit at the top of the coil springs, they are available in different thicknesses to alter the height of the vehicle by small increments. I presume MB do them to allow for different car specs and different vehicle weights. I wanted to change my front pads as the car has always sat a little too high at the front.

The pad on the left is the new pad with one notch or nipple, the pad on the right is the old pad that has 4 notches and as you can see is a lot thicker.

This is a picture of the special MB spring compressor tool that I bought from the US for $440, the equivalent tool over here is over £500.

There are two sets of plates, the smaller set is for the 202 and 210, the bigger set is for cars with bigger diameter springs. Dunno what exactly.

The plates are slid through the spring between coils, the telescopic bit with the threaded bar slots between them.

I am impressed with the difference in size - I hdon't think I need to get too drastic with the springs seeing that.

This is a picture of the tool in place on the front coil spring, the spring is compressed by tightening the screw with a long ratchet. It is surprisingly easy to turn.

Here is the spring removed from the car, if you were changing the springs this is when you would release the compression on the spring and then compress the new spring to fit it.

Note the coloured markings on the spring, this identifies the height and strength of the spring.

I did take a picture of the new level ride height but it was too dark to see properly, so here is a picture of those super wide tyres again and with the standard exhaust back on. :D

Anybody want to buy a Remus exhaust??

Got my H&R's on order. Due in about 7-10 days Jimmy. Be on standby!

H&R Sport. Lower about 35mm I think? Will sort out some smaller spring pads too probably, as mine are F2, R3 I think.

Will get rid of the gap a bit hopefully, reduce roll slightly and hopefully not make me too low to blat A to B accross Oxfordshires finest undulating B roads.

Lower than what? :) I never know what to make of the lowering claims because your sport trim model is about 10mm lower than an elegance already, and the difference is the springs and shocks. It might be 35mm lower, it might be 25mm lower. I guess we will find out! Please make some measurements before and (about a week - let it settle) after.

from what I've been told about these springs from very respected mechanics is that unless you have the Klann tool it's a job you shouldn't even consider. If you do have the klann tool it's a job you should think very carefully before taking on - those front springs are lethal!

I used big cable ties once,It worked but never again,The lads disappeared when I started cutting them. :bannana:

Seeing as I no longer have a car to use the coil spring compressor on, it will be going on ebay soon.

If any members wish to hire it from me then please get in touch asap otherwise it will go straight on ebay. I need to raise funds for the new car so I am selling just about everything!!
