There is a module sold in German eBay which does that. It is hardwired not manual coded. Speak to MBENZNL as he installed such a module in his W168.

Thanks for that - I actually find that very annoying, as my dealer insisted that it couldn't be done on my Oct 04 car and it's bugged me all the time I've owned the car!

It depends on the front SAM and whether he is willing to give it a stab.

Would you kind enough to either post or PM me the necessary steps in StarDiagnose? I've found some info on one of the US Forums from Steve's Big Sis but it's confusing as there are discussions going on about several models at the same time.

Mine is a late 04 (so facelift) W203 estate.

If your technician does not know how to do it then I am wondering why go there. It needs to be selected in the cluster under variant coding and special equipment. Failing that you need to go see a mod specialist. I think the closest one to you is Alfie.

I go there because it's the local MB dealership. Alfie is 200 miles away from me, and in the UK that would be at least a 4 hour drive, even on a good day.

I also wanted some mods done on a 2007 W203. Namely the tyre pressure, Uk mode off, gallons left.

I emailed command.co.uk which I believe are connected with Alfie (Correct me if I'm wrong).

They quoted me £150 flat rate for an hour of Star programming !!

How much were you charged at the independent ?

We quoted you £150. Had you been a longer standing member of this forum (30 posts or more) the rate would have been different

For that £150 you get whatever programming you want done that is possible except for anything illegal (TV in motion). Plus you get a full check for any errors on the car and clearing those errors unless hard faults. If the work takes longer than 1 hour there is no extra charge (try getting that at your local dealer). Plus we dont charge VAT (yet).

Plus you get the car coded by someone who really knows what they are doing, using genuine tools.

you've said what mods are available on the w203 post face lift 04 on, but does anyone know whats available on the pre face lift w203 as i'm interested in getting some of these done? Is there alot of difference?

I'm the same with a pre facelift 04 C180k Avantgarde SE with sports pack and am intrigued what I can have added via STAR and where I can get them done near Edinburgh.

Willing to offer a couple of pints for them!

Yes I was the test-dummy on that one too. I am on my 3rd mirror frame.

It goes something like this ........

* If you have folding or dimming then you already have the correct door controller. There is no such door controller on the W169 / W245. In the W164 ML you may have the correct door controller if you have the fancy door lights. Otherwise CLS W219, SLK R171, E-W211 (after 2002) all have the correct door controller regardless. If there is a mirror frame for memory passenger frame then order it.

* If you dont have the correct door controller you have to order a mirror frame and a door controller.

* Be sure that you know which options you have and want because if you want passenger mirror dimming it is a different frame on the W203 and a different glass than the non-dimming memory frame. Also in the W211 and W219 the dimming options are all the same. So it depends on which car it is being installed on.

* Do you want folding ? It wont cost you any extra .... then all you need is the folding drivers side and the control button .... and more coding!

* The precision coding then needs to be done. There is no dealer you can go to for that.

* Manual gear shift cars may not be able to signal the mirror to dip down.

Short Answer: Yes it can be done.

Long Answer: It needs to be planned.


W203: Order the specific set of options you want in the mirror frame and make sure you want the dimming or non-dimming version. The glass is very expensive in dimming.

W219/W211: Make sure you order the dimming version of the frame because the extra wires hide away in a special pocket to conceal unused dimming function.

R171/W219/W211: Generally has the correct door controller (after 2002)

W164: May have the correct door controller.

W169/W245: No such option

R230/W221: Generally comes with memory seats

Other models need to be evaluated.

I have dimming and folding mirrors on my W203. How much costs frame for Auto down turning mirror and do anyone know part number? I dont have memory unit.

I am looking for a way to auto fold the mirrors in my Dec 2005 639 Vito.
It has the heated power fold option but there must be a kit available to do this.
at present you need to hold the button down with ignition on to fold and unfold.
