Sudden loss of Mercedes.Me functionality

I noticed that a couple connected options have been added back to the Mercedes Me Store for one of my cars, despite being pulled some time ago - there were no items available at all when I last checked.

Now there are some basic traffic and tracking options again, and a caveat that it requires the use of an external data connection l, ie a phone or mifi. Seems more expensive than it was .

At least that sounds like a work around.

Interestingly I have just looked at the reviews on the App Store for iOS and it seems they started to go downhill end of November beginning of December.

There was a developer response early December stating that they are aware of the issues and are rolling out various updates by country so we may still see a resolution to this over the next few weeks assuming the uk hasn’t been done yet but who knows.

Hopefully they will now enable the cars to connect to a phone for data instead of only permitting the phone to connect to the car for data.

It would be really great if MB come up with a decent solution for this.

Cue world record breath-holding attempts by ‘legacy’ MB customers everywhere…

I did read somewhere that the system will still be able use 2G (which Vodafone are not switching off yet). Don’t know if this will still allow Live Traffic or Emergency calls, eg. if the airbags are triggered.
The E-Call system uses 2G for comm's so will continue to work.

AFAIK, Live Traffic uses 3G/4G so that will stop working.

So MB sold us Live Traffic in Sep ‘23, for a 2016 car that relies on 3G, knowing that Vodaphone were dropping 3G during our period of use/subscription. Outstanding! 🙄

Don't take my comment about Live Traffic using 3G/4G as gospel - it was deliberately prefixed with "AFAIK" - but I may be incorrect as some TomTom devices appear to use 2G to receive traffic info.

Perhaps a pointed question to MB Customer Services will clarify the situation?

Oh, I very much appreciate your comment and recognise that it may not be ‘gospel’. I do intend to contact MB, but am not expecting much from them to be honest.

I would not be in the least surprised if the sun-downing of 3G leaves cars like mine high and dry, and for MB to do nothing about it apart from try to sell me a new car which I neither need or want.

Hi , my Mercedes me feature worked when my car was new for two years or so.

From that time forward never worked , Mercedes refuse to refund my outstanding balance.

The car has spent many hours at my Mercedes servicing dealer ( no charge for me ) and gave up and handing the issue to Mercedes.

No improvement from the Mercedes brand and they in turn gave up.

Its hit and miss with owners cos mines been working flawlessly since I purchased the vehicle (early w205 model) in August.. I haven't paid anything and have live tms, lock/unlock and vehicle location.. however I do expect some sort of change with the app n features this month with Vodafone shutdown..

After being out and about the last few days it does seem to me that even with the 4g modules, something has gone wrong even with those as I do think even they rely quite heavily on 3g still, as mine was dropping in and out of connection all day.

I’ve just checked vodaphone mobile coverage and according to them, my postcode is still live so I am also beginning to wonder if my module is faulty.

Do you pay for Vodafone in the car or are you getting it gratis?

I signed up I think in March 2023 & got the free trial, every few weeks I get an email saying it’s ended then a few hours later another email saying it’s started.

on 21/12 I got this

As far as I am aware, it was included foc for the first three years after purchase and then if I decide I can buy it as an add on once that runs out.

This is on a van.

Care to share a link for the debunking?

Already many youngsters are getting the blackbox insurance trackers as it’s significantly cheaper.

Problems like the following arise and don’t get fixed until it gains media attention

We are all ok until we are forced or majorly financially incentivised to get one

The likely hood is we will be forced
