Sudden loss of Mercedes.Me functionality

Problems like the following arise and don’t get fixed until it gains media attention
Why do you think that such problems don’t get fixed without media attention ?

The insurer would be inundated with alerts, revoking insurance left right and centre, so the insurer would know fairly quickly that there was an issue.

It would be difficult for them to think that all of their black-box customers started driving at three times the speed limit overnight, and do so all the time.

They lost me at “Took a day off work to phone the insurance company”.

Which post in that thread said it wouldn’t possibly be a thing. Closest I saw was this one which suggested that it would be politically u feasible due to poverty in areas within the ULEZ :dk:

PS How does that ULEZ thread relate to your suggestion that an insuramce company only took action to fix errors when there was media attention?

Was there any evidence of that by the way?

The article states that insurance cover was suspended for four days starting on a Friday. So suspended on Friday and restored the next working day (Monday).

Very few media outlets carried the story and the BBC appears to be the first on 6 November, the others - The Telegraph and Daily Mail followed on 7 November.

The 6 November was a Monday and so the article may have been published on the day insurance was restored, and it had already been sorted as it’s written the last tense.

Perhaps “they” don’t want us to know the truth about black boxes, and so they censored Google search results so that the rest of us don’t see what’a coming.

Cleverly though, “they” allowed just three Google search results to muddy the water and avoid accusations of total censorship. They really are sneaky sausages.

Comically, at the time of writing this very thread on MBClub is actually the 14th Google search result when using the search terms Connor Davies black box 😁

And finally this forum chat started off in 2010 said that sewing two small jackets together to make a bigger one couldn’t be a thing:

Can mods move these ulez posts to the ulez thread?

Ya think!? 🤣

Sorry, that’s in part my fault. My reason for linking to the legendary Jack thread is because it’s as relevant as randomly linking to a thread on ULEZ, ie not relevant in the slightest. Amusing myself on a slow day 😁

It would be really great if MB come up with a decent solution for this.

Cue world record breath-holding attempts by ‘legacy’ MB customers everywhere…
We (ComandOnline) are hoping to have a fix for this very issue very soon.

We are building a list of customers who are interested in the upgrade/update so do please email in to [email protected] with your full VIN number and I will add you to the list to be notified when we have cracked it.

I likely didn’t help 🤣

Have you confirmed whether or not the 3G switch-off will affect the Live Traffic feature for cars lacking 4G connectivity?

Assuming that the guys at ComandOnline come up with a fix that allows 3G equipped cars to use 4G (fingers crossed), another potential issue is Mercedes not offering a contract for Live Traffic to legacy (3G) customers.

Well, I am sure I’ll jinx it now but it has behaved the last few days, as I turned off notifications in the app.

Might be worth a go?

Or, something has been sorted at Mercedes server end.

My 4G one works (or not) quite randomly. Sometimes it's OK in the morning but not later on in the day, or vice-versa. Other times it works fine for a week or more. This started around late November.

Sometimes all the data from the car is missing in the app (and Live Traffic isn't there in the car), other times the app updates partially. Screen shot of it showing a moving 'parked' icon while driving along the M6 recently:

They fixed it some time around NY and it's been working flawlessly since then. Let's see how long that will last. Car is 17 plate

Hopefully they will now enable the cars to connect to a phone for data instead of only permitting the phone to connect to the car for data.
That would require new software development on older systems. No chance of them doing that, they want you to buy a new car!!

We've sorted changing from code 360 (Hermes 1.5 3G) to code 362 (Hermes 1.5 4G/LTE) on E class W213 with COMAND (531) and it will also work for cars with the later Audio-20 (506).
I'm being specific because there is also 350 (older) and for some reason the 4G module with the USB interface to COMAND is not available, so can't put it on a W213 with the early Audio-20 (code 522) as no hardware available.

Our C-class has
531 COMAND APS NTG5/NTG5.5
360 Hermes UMTS (3G)
