Suzzie, the CLK 500 so this happened

Could you possibly elaborate a little on 'Alpaca dye applied via a sponge' is this a wool dye rather than a leather dye?

It’s Proper Dye,

not sure why images are like this sorry

Cheers, one more question. How did you identify the correct colour as it looks like quite a good match?

The colour match, it’s perfect, I was a little crafty unintentionally, I sent vin to a company online they told me it was alpaca grey and another colour which escapes my mind atm for the inserts. I found a company on eBay I ordered the alpaca grey at £16,95 for 500ml and hey presto.

So Monday I should have the Brabus monoblocks fresh with conti’s going on, and then to bribe the wife to stitch up those water pockets lol.
Also noticed when I was under there the centre anti roll bar looked corroded so a new genuine one will be going on.

I wonder what the previous owner would say now if he saw it lol , I don’t think he would recognise it.

Thankyou she has certainly found a soft spot , haven’t enjoyed a car this much for ages, I love a rough diamond to work on , This One is turning out a beut :)

Sorry i missed your original post.

Congratulations, always loved the CLK + with the V8 and Jasper Blue. As has been mentioned it's a shame the current MB designers don't take a leaf out of that era  Sorry i missed your original post. Welcome to the Convertible Club.

So sorted the water pockets, A little bit crude but works , the wife has been dragging her feet on this one haha since instead of stitching the elastic back I made a small hole in the end of the two snapped bits and cable tied them worked a treat lol

Nice little trick👍

I did one side on mines and stitched the elastic to the water pocket. My one still does not pull the water bag out of the way correctly so I was thinking that it has probably been repaired before. The elastic may not have been sewed back to its original position. I think it is too low, any chance you can take a pic of where about your elastic is on the water pocket?

I will if i get chance, there is a Small flap of fabric at the corner of the hood each side of the bottom of the glass, its colored silver where the elastic should be attached, you should be able to see the remains of where it once was if you have the hood partially up exposing the glass.

I presumed it stretched before snapping so cable tied mine in alittle further in making it a little more taught than before, it seems to have done the trick.

Finally got the wheels fitted, due to the off set of the rear wheels, the oe bolts for the rear were slightly to long and fouled the back plate.

Oe bolts 40mm of thread, New bolts needed 35mm of thread.

Anyway she's now spot on car feels lovely and smooth and ride quality doesn’t seem to have suffered going from 17" to 18"

Just a personal observation. I would have left the Brabus centre caps on those lovely wheels.
I've enjoyed reading about the work you've put into the car, it looks like it will pay you back in spades.
