Well, I am on my way over to Audi with an A6, and the forum over there is full of people who are moving over from MB E-Classes. It seems I am not the only one who is disenchanted with the current trends in MB exterior styling and questionable interiors. Can't say I see a lot of Audi defectors over here.

That is because they have no class they are happy with mid range vehicles.

May be its me but I just don't get Audi's unless its a UR Quattro or some of the RS cars. They do have lovely interiors granted but they are incredibly dull cars and numb to drive generally. If Audi's represented a colour they would be beige or magnolia. I put them in the same bracket as Volvo's there that dull.

I do however recognise that the average person seems to now aspire to owning an Audi which is why they are now sat on every middle class persons drive, top marks to Audi on that front I must admit.

Still each to their own everyone used to aspire to own a BMW seems the Joneses now drive an Audi in 2014.

I think you're being a bit harsh there; I can vouch for the interiors being very well laid out, although the build quality of it is not as excellent as some like to make out.

The 4.2TDi engine (superseded by the astounding 6.0 V12 TDI) is a cracker too and the 3.0 TDI Quattro A6 estate (as in the OP) is a very capable all-rounder.

I wouldn't knock anyone for buying an Audi at all but for me they are just as dull as dishwater, may be I'm getting old but I don't think they are worth the premium over some of the equivalant VAG range who seem to do a much better job of making a nicer car to drive granted without the alleged prestige of the four rings which you pay through the nose for.

I used to have an Audi 100GL , it was a fine car . Mind you , it was a few years ago



Even then , I still preferred the Merc (280E) I had at the same time .

Actually , the Audi name used to belong to Mercedes , until Mercedes sold it to VW in the late 50's/early60's .

I wonder how many know that the four circles which form the Audi trademark represent the four German manufacturers ( Audi , Horch , Wanderer & DKW ) which joined to form Auto-Union ?

VW themselves , of course , got their start from Mercedes-Benz , their original product being designed by a Mercedes engineer , a certain Dr. Porsche , and the prototype cars being built by Mercedes .

Audi make nice cars no doubt about it. But I do get a bit bitter & twisted when defectors start having a dig before they go. Saying Audi is a better built car than a Merc is just plain ridiculous. It has been said before and it pains me to have to say it again below is my mini league table.

1 Mercedes
2 BMW
3 audi and so on until you get to the bottom with a Dunster (hope no one on here has one as I will be in for more verbal abuse)
