The missing RHD AMG Hammer????

Why the assumptions ?

I will do the cosmetic refurb that it needs and trust me, once my cars are done they are truly mint, not dressed up pigs. I do all engine/chassis/interior/suspension work myself, save the bodywork which i entrust to my family friend who runs an insurance approved bodyshop and has done several of my cars.

I'll second that. Truely amazing collection of cars, all of them in stunning condition.

Nice to see you finally on here!

Just a final comment...i am stunned at the first post in this thread, where so many assumptions have been made, both about the buyer and the car, without having first-hand knowledge of either of them.

The worst assumption is the one saying the engine needs a rebuild for 9k !!! Couldnt be further from the truth....to make that assumption without having started or driven the car is scandolous !

Anyone who wants to test the condition of the engine, drop me a line and meet me at a disused runway in your finest machine......:bannana:

Talbir....calm down.....as you state assumptions have been made and naturally so, bearing in mind that the car was sold at an auction which does not allow buyers to fire up the engines or to drive the cars....with this in mind you naturally have to make assumptions and the condition of the car would naturally lead to a worst case scenario having to be made......I take the same approach on any properties I buy from auction. Assume the worst and cost it accordingly and if things are not as bad as they seem then, so much the better.

I took an impartial view of its condition, whereas you naturally have an emotional and now a more objective view of the car now that its in your possession......so whilst you may be inflamed by some of the comments made, do remember that they were made from a completely impartial view point and were just my opinion of its condition. At the end of the day which ever way you look at it its a car thats going to need some money thrown at it and probably quite a bit, but maybe not as much as the doomsday scenario.

The great news from your perspective is that mechanically things look OK at this early stage...on the flip side if they weren't then you could well have been looking at a rebuild of @ £9k if you had gone down the professional rebuild route and likely a lot less if you are handy with the spanners which in your case, I think you are.

I'm glad that the car has gone to a good home and I'm sure its going to be restored to a condition that is worthy of the car and its history and it is truly great news that the 2nd Hammer has been found.

Oh...and lastly I note the comments on power outputs which is probably a comment re my signature and the power output next to my 5.0 Hammer. As you quite rightly state the power outputs on the quad cams were officially stated as 340 (5.0), 360 (5.6) and 380 (6.0)....in reallity as all engines were built using seasoned blocks and were hand assembled, no one engine produced exactly the stated official power output and in the case of my 5.0 engine which I had rebuilt on my Hammer, I had a couple of little modifications done which raised its power to 358bhp (dyno print out) which is why my signature shows my 5.0 producing 360bhp.

Talbir....calm down.....

You're making false assumptions again....who said i was angry or inflamed. Take a step back and stop the judgements. When i am angry, you'll know about it. right now, i'm on top of the world, so please do not assume i am inflamed or emotional, just because i have responded with some facts on the car in question. :)

I took an impartial view of its condition

I believe you....hundreds of others who read your post might not.....the view on the buyer certainly was not impartial....it was severly mis-judged.

the end of the day which ever way you look at it its a car thats going to need some money thrown at it and probably quite a bit

I have restored many cars and i know what it costs...w124's are cheap to restore...remember, this is not a 500E with expensive panels and pieces and overpriced parts. Standard w124 panels all the way.

And that is the only place money needs spending - bodywork.

I have assessed the car and costs required - account for the fact i do all my work...i don't need to pay anyone to do it.....keeps things cheap but keeps quality and satisfactory :bannana:

Ok, have you got the dyno print out ?

Was the dyno run done at the rear wheels or did you actually hook up all the electronics/ancillaries to the engine and get the dyno on the crank ?

If the dyno was done at the rear wheels, then an assumption would have been made on drivetrain loss which could account for the extra 18bhp. Equally modifications could increase the power but what modifications were they ?

The 6.0 DOHC M117 was officially rated at 375bhp, 9.4:1 compression ratio. Although in reality that was probably higher, i'd say that engine was more likely 390+. Although the heads were hand assembled, the copmonentry was not hand made - so there is no technical reason for power output to vary.

Talbir ...

I've always admired what you do ( Nav and Simal also ) from afar , and been amazed at the items that you Ebay too ... i have a much lesser model car than any of yours , but am happy with it ...

Such a shame that you come across as such an aggressive individual , Nav and Simal have always spoken very highly of you ... :(

Would have been nice to have had a hello before you start squaring up to people , oh well , welcome on board.

That's a cracking car Talbir! I bet it sounds immense too!!

My friend, i have responded with technical and factual information to incorrect and false assumptions, nothing else.

Yes, i have questioned the dyno outputs, but have done so in a technical manner...you can respond to that with technical facts, as i did to your first post in this thread. It's a forum for discussion isn't it....?

Lastly, no, this is not a 'mines bigger than yours contest'. Re-read my posts objectively - my responses have been purely technical.

I did say hello - refer to my first post. The one responding to that told me to 'Calm down'.....!!!

I haven't squared upto anyone - i have offered technical debate. Given that so much was said about my car and me, i think i was pretty restrained. Easy to criticise others, until one's own toes are trodden on...

Hi Talbir
I'm interested in the history of this car and what documentation comes with it and should this have any bearing whatsoever on the value? Have you any signed photographs of the owner at the wheel of this very nice car?

I am NOT having a go at you and if truth be known I might be kicking myself (not really)

I once purchased a 12 month old top of the range 2.8i Granada Ghia X estate. For the first 12 months of its life this vehicle had been given to the Royal family and was used by both Prince Charles and Princess Diana. No proof of this as the car was registered to the Ford Motor Company of Greta Britain but I just happened to see who it had been allocated to.

would this history have put value on the car? Was your very nice vehicle registered to the individual and do you have this documentation? I expect the answer is yes and as stated I am merely curious as to its history and very envious of your owning this very nice car.

I am looking forward to seeing pictures and I am hoping you will keep us all updated regarding the progress of the restoration. Have you made your mind up regarding the sun roof?

Please do not think I am having a go at you. Just the opposite.

Good luck with the restoration.

Yours sincerely
John

Talbir,

It being Coys who were auctioning the car I've got to say I don't think it wildly unreasonable to assume the worst about ANY car they're handling, what with a fairly dodgy reputation & a long history of lawsuits behind them. I used to work for a competitor of theirs at the very high end of the classic car trade in S. Ken & can tell you stories that would make your hair stand up straight.

Fortunately for you, in this case those fears appear to be unfounded & the car looks like a good one, especially as you have the talent, skill & connections to restore it at a fraction of the cost your average punter would be paying.

Good luck with your project.

Sounds great, but the missing rear AMG box is dissapointing....hope to sort that soon. The old period AMG boxes by Sebring have poor durability/longevity....my mileage with this car will be < 1k miles per annum so a Sebring will last a little longer :-)

cheers

Yawn ....

Ok, perhaps you think you don't come across as an aggressive person .... fair enough.

Now you are nitpicking , ok you did actually type the word 'hello' but then launched straight into it ....

Glad you like your cars , i'll bow out now , can't be bothered.
