Unfortunately my son had an accident yesterday on his motorbike caused by pedestrians walking out on a pelican crossing when the traffic was green.

No injuries, just a scrapped bike when he slid to a stop. The pedestrians didn't even stop to see if he was ok, they just kept walking!

Just a bad were the four cars that steered around him whilst he was lying in the road without offering any help, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Thank you, David, and a timely reminder to anyone who reads this to think bike.

I always stop, look and LOOK AGAIN - I never glance.

Try it tonight guys - it might be my life you save.

I hope your son recovers well, and doesn't let this incident put him off this wonderful pastime.

Glad it wasnt any worse, only material damage.

Thanks guys....only minor injury is a stiff wrist this morning, the bike got off very lightly with a 2" scratch on the fuel tank, a scuffed nudge bar and a broken clutch lever.

My son was angry that the pedestrians didn't stop and called the Police who confirmed that the pedestrians had commited an offence not stopping at the scene of an accident thatg they were involved in. They are going to look at CCTV for any hope of identifying the culprits but we are not going to hold our breath.

God what selfish w-kers. Full recovery to your son. Shameful.

This is the second incident my son has experienced, the first was a car driving into the back of him at a T-junction, the car reversed and drove away before my son could identify him/her but again despite him being laid out in the middle of the road numerous cars drove around him without offering any help.

People are scared to get involved these days due to all the red tape and potential hassle and trouble they could get themselves into.

Play dead and you find people do stop.

When they get close enough, spring into life and grab them and dont let them go until they provide contact details.

Stiff wrist could be a scafoid fracture - best to check it out.

I'm sorry to hear this, the main thing is he is ok.

Its true people don't want to stop as they don't know what they are getting involved in.

I would still advise all bike people (including me on my ush bike) to have your lights on. I left work at 4pm the other day a little grey but not dark. A colleague left at the same time in her car and said she I was hard to see when she saw me again at a junction.

So I have fitted nurmerous flashing lights and got my High viz jacket out.

Stay safe.

I wish I could say I was surprised that no one gave a s*** but I am not these days.

Sad to say, but I'd have hit the pedestrians - if they're down for the count too then they can't walk away.

If people cannot be relied on to take responsibility for their own actions, they need to suffer the consequences.

I agree, always have your lights on. My son is a careful rider and always has the bike's headlight on. Equally as important is to wear the proper clothing, good quality helmet, boots, trousers etc. in case of accidents. It amazes me how many young kids you see riding L plated scooters wearing t-shirts in the summer. Thankfully the vast majority of motorbike riders have more sense.

The worse case I have seen is a young lad on a 125cc learner bike wearing t-shirt, shorts and flip flops. Crazy.

Clearly the tub of lard in the Honda, and the heffer in the Fiat did not read this as both of them decided to pull out on me last night.
Mr Pilsbury also took it upon himself to stop three quarters of the way across the lane, refusing to make eye contact to make it even more interesting.

Not to mention the three mnopausal monsters, who pressed the button for a crossing, and continued their obviously scintillating conversation such that the lights changed back before they had a chance to cross the road.

Time to fit the Stebel Nautilus I have hidden away in the garage methinks.

Protective clothes

This appears to be standard issue when I have been on holiday in Italy. They wear helmets but rarely fasten the chin strap. They dart about with the flaps flying in the wind. Having two other people and a dog on the scooter at the same time is not unusual.

Saw an example of this this morning - kid in a t-shirt waving around on a scooter...

Yup, and unfortunately that's what in my mind he will end up looking like at some point.

That's got to smart a little hasn't it...

Ouch!! you would have to be utterly mental to not wear the correct protective gear!

David: Sorry to hear about your son but glad that he is ok. The majority of people have no regard for bikers at all.

I've always thought that when learning to drive people should be taught awareness of motorbikes and HGV's, would be incredibly useful and would certainly raise the standard of driving.

I ride a an R6 and an old Ducati 851 Superbike. i did Motocross for years and even did a few fast rounds in the british championship, meaning I'm no stanger to a crash.

I ocaasionally ride with jeans on instead of leathers but thats it.

that guy will go through the pain barrier with those road rashes.

Cheese onto a grater when you fall off on the road. (Soft Mud is so much sweeter.) I think people who ride anybike without gloves really are as thick as pig sheet.
