thinking of swapping the GL

The RR is not the same as a Disco so you cannot infer RR reliability from Disco data.

JD Power do not differentiate between Disco 2 and Disco 3 models, which are completely different cars. The figures for the D3 are somewhat skewed by the inclusion of the v unreliable D2. Early D3s did have issues but it now seems that they are much improved. Anyway this is a bit academic as you cannot infer anything about RR reliability from Disco data.

True, I have a relatively early D3, it has been v reliable although it has had one recall and a few minor trim/peripheral issues. Would I have another? - definately! Maybe after the GL, it will be facelifted by then. Every time I look at it, it just looks the part.

I saw an R class on the M6 last week. It is a BIG car! much bigger than I imagined. What seat configuration do they have?

.

Depends on the version.
Standard length is 5 seats, supertanker is 7.

As for the GL, I didn't know a revised/new model was on the cards. Mine is delivered in about 4/5 weeks. I really like the RRS, there are so many on the roads though it is not exclusive enough.

Its worth watching the video out there on the R class and the seating, very versatile

The LWB only got 7 seats fairly recently, it was a 6 seater before. My in-laws have a LWB R350, I think that engine (petrol V6) has been dropped now as well.

I'm afraid that is not correct. If you go to the MB website and configure the Short Wheelbase model (SWB) you will see you can choose the 5 seater or the 7 seater version. Same on the LWB model.

Basically, they have dropped the original 6 seater design which flopped and gone for a conventional estate car lay-out. Like the E class estate it has the option of two extra seats in the luggage area -but with the avantage that they face forwards. As near as makes no difference it is becoming an S class estate.

With 7 seats there is virtually no room for luggage. More in an A class!

I would have thought it was too early for a facelifted GL, it was only launched in late 06 wasn't it? So that it roughly 18 months. Starting to get impatient to get mine delivered! Currently having the adaption fitted I think. Will be taking delivery in 3/4 weeks! Can't wait!
