This is ridiculous!

Less is more IMHO.

My Brabus kit came with about 800000000 different badges and stickers for everything from engine bay, boot, wings, windows - you name it. I flogged them all on eBay and left the car looking smooth and beautiful.

I did see one the other day where every sticker/badge in the kit had been put on the car and it looked bad.

But even manufacturers do it with bl00dy V8 badges on the sides and things in the grille and more car park bling than anyone except somebody in Dhubai needs.

Must admit I sort of have this problem and don't really know what to do. When I bought my CLK it had a Brabus K1 performance pack fitted. As you say I believe this comes with a myriad of badges / stickers that can be fitted.

There is a discreet one in the engine compartment giving the kit number etc and there were 2 that were in the car that I have removed as they looked really tacky.

The main one is that it carries the Brabus Badge on the boot lid which has been on from New I guess when Brabus did the conversion and whilst it has the Brabus K1 tuning pack, suspension, exhaust etc I'm not sure it is a "True" Brabus car and as such is it worthy of wearing the Brabus badge on its Rear? I keep toying with the idea of removing it and putting the CLK 230 standard badge back on but have never really go around to doing anything.

Thoughts?

Ummmmm ....

I actually have a small chrome V8 badge on my front wing ( in place of where the Avantgarde badge should be ) .... i do actually have a V8 though :)

I put it on as it helps to discourage traffic light GP's with the Nova brigade ( they glance over and see it and don't want to play ) .... i know you could say 'well just don't play then' , but i have very poor willpower ..... :o

They are proper MB font ones , and ( i think ) don't look out of place ...

I'm just going off to put my fireproof suit on , ready for the flaming .... :D

The other day I saw an early A class (T reg) with get this: 2 AMG badges on the back, a V8 badge either side just behind the front wheels, an AMG badge stuck to one of the louvres of the grill and HUGE AMG sticker across the top of the windscreen! And, it had plastic wheel covers and a massive bolt on exhaust tip! LOL!!!!

They arent too bad, they remind me of my neighbours MK3 Mondeo that has V6 badges in exactly the same place. & everytime he talks to me about cars he mentions the power of his V6 (even though ive told him mines one aswell)

Like Howard I also have poor will power. I positively encourage the Corsa brigade to take me on. It comes of driving a W202 180 for three years and losing out to everyone in a Morris Minor or better!!

Near Cambridge by any chance? Ive seen it if so...

yeah, but yours suits your car and doesnt look trashy...

sticking it onto an a class looks the opposite lol..

i mean the engine would take up the cabin space..
maybe what the A class needs is a badge stating

V(dot)8 lol

its all good though

Is there anything really wrong with someone pretending to have something they don't?

For most people, owning an AMG will be an aspiration that will not be achieved - so what is the matter with make-believe?

Because people laugh at you ?

Any of the Nova / Corsa / Saxo brigade could afford an AMG ...

The money they waste on making their silly cars look like spaceships would buy a decent AMG and pay for the insurance ....

nothing is the matter.

once upon a time, i even did add crappy badges..

its personal choice, this is simply a forum and seeing what ones opinion on it, is interesting.

add an amg badge, no probs, dont add one.. no probs, im not judging lol, just giving my opinion.. not acting as God and the al mighty lol.

having badges in the right place look the part, odd positions look crap, but then maybe if the manufacturer had initially put them in odd places, then everyone else follows on from them, then it looks normal to everyone..

simply a view point

Could they really?

If they could, they would.

Is it wrong for someone to put a Man U badge on their car?

If someone is a fan of something it is natural for them to want to display it somehow.

Very few are fantasist enough to think a few badges are enough to be convincing.

Guys who mod their car have a vision - some are lucky to find a package with their vision already satisfied, others have the energy to seek something else - whether we like it or not.

Ok , explain to me how a £3k corsa with £15k's worth of tat bolted on wouldn't buy a CLK55 and insure it ? £18k goes a long way .... these kids spend THOUSANDS on these tin boxes ...

I had a Mk1 GTi and changed the badge to a 'Rabbit' badge complete with two rabbits 'at it' ....

I was 17 though .... :o

one thing i will add though is...

when u have a mercedes, people who also own mercedes do admire your car in one form or another.

tuned cars look great, but over tuning, send out distrubing vibes.

likewise, the average mercedes owner possibly would know the different models and body styles, thus seeing a standard car with enhanced badges is nice, but if its only the badges, rather than get an admiral glance, you get one more along the lines of "knob"

just my opinion..

badging up over the top or sticking badges in places they shouldnt be is like wearing your shoes the wrong way round.. u might not notice, but others think ur a ****!

thats all.. no big issue

though this is just my opinion, not everyones! thanks!

I don't see the point in adding badges to be honest, keep it as was intended IMHO. You won't catch me sticking V6 badges to the side of my car or AMG badges.

Spending more money than something is intrinsically worth is to most foolish, but to some, its a way of creating something unique.

I don't necessarily like most of what I see, but I can appreciate the creativity, the vision, the skill and the drive that caused the end result.

I think you are wrong. The average Merc driver would notice nothing. Those of us on here are probably not your average Merc driver since we do take an interest. Had to show a friend recently that he had a Tip box, and explain what a supercharger was,etc...

fair point, but your example i dont think is the same as mis representation.

nothing is right or wrong, in some eyes, it might look cool.. but sticking amg badges on to a car with hub caps doesnt look the part, and just actually cheapens the way u look.

my opinion only..

man u badges, great, on the car, great, has no relevance to the car, its a personal choice.

AMG badging up a car which looks so far from an AMG, well dont think its right. do as you please, but if you have amg wheels, its cool to badge up, bodykit, interior, suspension, exhaust, any trait, and its great to have the badge on.. but amg badging up your car when the only trace of AMG on your car is the exhaust fumes from the one that just raced past you,,, hmm just dont seem right.. 10 years ago, i might think wow, cool, today, with more knowledge, seeing just a badge up c180 standard car looks trashy. I fthe c180 for example had the original badge and was factory original, great, respect to the owner and respect to the car for being so lovely..

fake badges which cant be justified = small weener!

have a good day, out off to the park...

i love the way your wording is.. its a very pleasant upifting read.

however, please help me understand the basis of example

c180se 1995 model
amg badges all over the plave, v8 c pillar badges, hub caps, and original inicators and the exhaust from the old metros..

now what vision , skill and drive and also end result are we talking about? lol

i see your point, but just not in this scenario!

I think a distinction has to be made between fraud and adulation.

I totally agree that attempting to pass off a stock MB as an AMG is wrong, but adding a few badges to an obviously "un-AMG" car as a fan are different things.

My point with the Man U analogy is that one can show support for something without owning it in a visible way badges, shirts etc without appearing to be deficient in some way.

How many on here have added AMG pedal covers to their car? Are they deluded wannabes?
