hi

what is the thread size of a W124 steering wheel bolt? i dont mean the 10mm allen head size, its the actual thread diameter i need.

trying to get the steering wheel bolt off using the usual methods hasnt worked and the 10mm allen is rounded. i'm going to have to drill it out....

thanks

derek

This post details the thread dimensions of screw A 1269900312 [ which I think it is?] to be:- Outside of the threads measure 15.75 mm and it's length is 27 mm. P/N help please - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum Some people have welded on a large nut to get it off- nice big flat surface so room enough??
I couldn't possibly comment.;)
ps:- 80Nm torque !!

i've drilled into it and even angle grinded a "cut" into some of it to allow me to use a chisel and hammer to turn it by hitting a hammer. its not budging.

i'll try welding a bolt to it. I did try to weld the allen key to it without success aswell.

i will be buying a new bolt for sure! but the car will be broken anyway once i've removed it (this is on my donor car by the way) so not 100% sure whether I will bother with a new bolt anyway if the car is to be scrapped. i'd like to get it off 1st. the decision to return the car to the road will come later down the line, at which point i'll replace anything that needs doing.

I only want to remove the wheel to be able to remove the indicator stalk (which is brand new)

cheers

Derek
