Ok, so many of us probably spend a lot of our time going up and down the motorways, and I always tend to keep any eye on what cars have broken down on the hard shoulder to pass the time

So how about we get a list going, of the cars you've seen broken down and we can see if a pattern builds for an one manufacturer/s....ps: flat tyres don't count, so I've had to discount two of my four spotted today.

1) Vauxhall Insignia
2) Renault Scenic 1 (2001)
3) Vauxhall Corsa (2004)

So not a good start for Vauxhall

On nearly every motorway journey I've ever made, I've seen a broken down Renault on the hard shoulder and it's normally a Scenic.

Neighbour's 2 year old Audi TT is dead at the moment (limp mode I think), off to be fixed under warranty.

I saw a D Type Jaguar (replica?) broken down on the S. bound M40 S. of Oxford last Thursday.

Funnily enough I saw a gent in cloth cap standing next to his Jaguar XK ( no idea whether it was a 120 or 150 ... ) on the hard shoulder of the M73 just south of Cumbernauld a couple of weeks ago .

Escort today between Jcn 2 and 3 of the m3 on the way down , X type Jag on way back.

Escort was an old ****ter though.

Saw Peugeot 206 on the hard shoulder.

I saw my dads broken down peugeot 307 in asda car park..... alternator belt broke!

All in a days work... backs up my feelings and comments about Vauxhall's and Renaults though!

X reg focus estate pulled over and bonnet up passed tonight

Just make sure you count out those that broke down due to misfueling or just running out of fuel altogether....

Had two Vauxhalls and a Renault, never actually broke down on the hard shoulder, but had quite a few issues with both.

Had a few Renaults. I'm going to ignore the R5's as they were old, and had character.

The new Laguna II, that I had has seen one of my few trips in a Recovery Lorry. After that it never managed to break down properly, but often would get a phone call from a dealer saying I could not have it back is it needed a part...

The Espace also saw a tow, after the Steering Lock failed and immobilised the car. AA said it was fine and the steering lock would not come on. I was nervous.

Not today but I have seen 2 Audi q7s on fire and my mate has also seen 1 on fire ! Is there something we are not being told !! ???

It may say a lot more about the owners rather than the marques, where broken old Renaults are concerned.

A BMW broken down in the middle of a safari park - 2 ranger vehicles there to protect the AA man !!!!

In experience from working on them in garages, MOT'ing them and recovering them from the side of the road, no. I find a lot of them driven by schoolteachers who like to have motoring holidays in France who make sure they are 100% for the trips..and still get left on the hard shoulder... no amount of careful maintenence can prepare you for your engine to hit the rev limiter and not switch off.... or a keycard to fail after fuelling up, or the fuel flap servo to fail (with no emergency release)... or a clutch slave cylinder to fail, which requires an almost complete removal of the dashboard...should I go on?

Yes, if you buy a Q7, tick the box for the optional fire extinguisher!

Was a few days ago but you can add my old Audi A3 to the list with a fried clutch :(.

I had a 1999 Renault Grand espace from new. Fantastic design, huge, like driving your favourite armchair but with the space of a Transit. However, it wasnt the best built car ever! at juts under a year old the digital speedo failed. the garage replaced the cable, didnt fix the problem. They tried a new head unit - still didnt work. In the end they decided it was the speedo drive on the inside of the gearbox - so I had to have a new gearbox.... fortunately under warranty!

I havent had a Renault since....
