Top 5 used cars to make money on

interesting site

BANGEROMICS -interesting site but this statement about a Mercedes 190 in the news section raised my eyebrows slightly.;) £500 buys a rust free 1985 190E with low 63K mileage. Don't think there are many of those around.

I have a Red 190 in the garage with 60k on the clock.
I think I will hang on to it if the price of 190s is going up.

I think I'm going to write a "future classics" article about the 1998 C230k! ;)

Shude don't limit it to just the C230K just say all W202's ;)

Me too, along with the Renault 5 GT Turbo Raider :D

Another great one!! I had a few friends with regular ones, but the Raider's wheels were just so different to anything else at the time (colour coded), and the paintwork so 'deep' blue.

I had a mate a few years older than me who didn't seem well off but must have been. He had a brand new G-reg Nova 1.3 SR when he turned 17, and then swapped it for a brand new H-reg 5 GT Turbo when he turned 18.

He had an accident in it within a month or so, and it was off the road over a year as he was third-party only. Ouch. Lovely car though (I had the Kenwood head unit out of it!!)

Didn't the first owners of Audi TT, Mercedes SLK, BMW M3, drive their brand new cars for one year, then sell it for slightly more than they got it?

I did notice at my local MB dealer the used car price of the SLK was more than the list. (though might have had a few options on board).

Certainly early roadsters (Z3 rather than M3?) were traded at a profit after driving for a while, simply as there weren't that many viable alternatives back then beyond MX5 and MGF. Since then the middle-market roadsters have mushroomed and there are loads to choose from when buyin new, and second hand.

Same also true for Mini, and I suspect M3.

Got to be brave to speculate on a new car though. I remember Chris Harris (Autocar) tried it on a Gallardo and got his fingers burnt - but enjoyed the experience all the same.

I was one of these with the SLK but I kept it for 5 months only and it had 2000 miles on it. But by the time you add the cost of insurance, cost of money, you end up out of pocket but it would have been fun :)

I bought a three year old Audi 90 in 1993 for £6,500
kept it for 11 years, and sold it for £650
depreciation of £5850 over 11 years = £532 a year :)

(it had less rust than my 4 year old MB)

Hi

I bought a 1986 Toyota GT Coupe in 1992 for £2250 sold it in 1995 for £2750 only thing i did was put 40000 miles on it. If i had it now it would be worth between £5000 and £6000 here in Ireland.

Oh how i miss that Japanese Donut Machine:mad:

Mate of mine had a Raider too at 17, whilst another had a Silver Honda CRX Vtec with Black leather (again at 17). The guy with the CRX crashed it within 3 months and ended up with a white XR3i :o

at the moment one of the best deals here in portugal it's the new SLK.
you can buy one in germany for around 30.000€'s (plus 6000€'s in taxes when it arrives portugal) and sell it here in around 41/42.000€'s.

guaranteed.

Time to put my anorak on ...

I think the 'Citroen Visa' (the red car below the white BMW 3-series) is actually a Peugeot 104. Also there are 2 VW Passat Mk 1s (I think). Can't see the Austin Ambassador or Reliant Robin though.
