Uber has lost it's Licence in London.

As I understand it they have lost it because of Uber drivers not being insured to drive the cars they've been driving, basically PCS hire cars. If this is really the case they should have been taken off the traffic much earlier.

Surprised it's taken so long.

Going to be lots of people struggling to get back from office parties and late nights out in December.

Long since moved out of London but remember having to take an illegal cab a couple of times in my 20s as just not enough taxi capacity. The black cabs all seem to finish around 8pm when they have made their money for the day and not enough private hire cars to go round.

They can still operate pending an appeal, which may take up to 12 months - maybe it's next year's parties that could have a problem.

3 of my homies are London taxi drivers all earrning £1500-£2000 a week and they’re loving all of this.

If TFL is right in what they are saying then fair play to them but UBER do actually fill a void that the black cabs don’t.

My understanding is that Uber weren't very diligent in IDing their drivers... the system allowed people to upload fake photos.

So if the person driving the car is in fact not the named driver on the insurance, this means that the driver has no insurance.

Said that, I don't think the insurer would turn down a personal injury claim from passengers under these circumstances. Do while most likely the passengers won't be affected by the insurance issue, there are other implications to being driven by a driver whose identity hasn't been properly verified.

43 problem drivers out of 45,000 & the company is banned? 0.00096%

Electioneering. Mayor wants to look tough, then the whole thing will be dropped after many months of appeals & many £s paid to m'learned friends by both sides.

I look forward to the same standards being applied to black cabs & the House of Commons.

Sadiq Khant is on the board of TFL. He despises Uber and will do all he can to stop them.

Their attitude to not granting a licence if its 43 incidents in 45,000 is like saying all black cab drivers should be taken off the road because John Warbouys was a cabbie rapist! As said above its politically motivated.
