Unmarked Police Cars

Totally off topic, I am thinking that we need a "Paranoid Poster" award for this forum...... Goes to the poster who most believes that he or she lives in a fascist police state.... but that they are the only person who can see it.

I'd reply; but then my reply would expose me to Big Brother's gaze and mind-control techniques... :p

I can't believe that VW Lupo! 124? Must have been the GTi and must have been flat out - very unstable surely

I was surprised too. was it a polo or a lupo .The range rover guy overtaking on hatched lines that is what we want to see, visible policing. he was a greater danger than someone doing 80 on a motorway

Surely we want to see ' Marked Traffic " cars on our roads, acting as a deterrent to those who feel like ignoring the motoring laws with unnmarked vehicles used for CID.

I suspect the answer is that Marked vehicles make drivers behave when they are in the vicinity and thus no money raising fixed penalty notices are going to be handed out in big numbers.

i am not bothered if they are marked or not.
I just want them to be there all the time. will make people drive better unlike cameras that do not help with bad driving, only speeding

I was always to look out for a 2nd ariel, along with the 2nd mirror. On the rear parcel shelf you'll spot a LED sign saying.

In practice harder to spot, and a tad underhand. They are mainly used for catching real high speed drivers (100mph plus) and securing evidence to gain a sucessful conviction. I doubt an umarked car wishes to blow its cover for catching the 71mph speeder

The lack of a dealer sticker in the back window or on the reg plate, immaculatly clean cars, the same make and type of car as local marked traffic units.
A little story, driving in my truck, but stopped at some roadwork traffic lights at Newport, Shrops on the A49. There was several cars in front of me, the car right in front of me was an unmarked training car (there was a plate on the rear bumper stating such:D ). After being stationary for about 30 secs, garbage and take-away brown paper bags started being ejected from the passenger window of an old cavalier at the front of the que, landing well away on the verge. I could see a discussion was taking place in the cop car, and after a few seconds the rear door opened, a copper got out and put his cap and walked to the front of the que, tapped on the passenger window of the cavalier. Several words were spoken, whereupon he stepped back. The passenger door of the cavalier opened and a woman shot out of the car and started to gather all the rubbish she'd thrown out, and some more. She then retreated to the car fully laden and red faced looking rather flustered, classic:D :D:bannana:

that is why we need more of them on the road
Actions like that will restore motorists faith.
visible policing no revenue raised and the law upheld.

Great story.

I've been fortunate to have driver training with serving and retired Police instructors. They tell some great tales of instruction drives, and compete on how far they can travel in a day.

There is a risk though that if they encounter an incident on their travels then they must decide how they respond and of course it usually means they get involved, which which leads to form filling, which means their superiors can trace where they've been.

I would say in my experience that you get 'jobs-worths' in every walk of life - but in general 'most' police officers aren't put in to make tonnes of work for themselves, they are there to catch people who are dangerous/mugging old ladies/being a public nuisance/generally p!ssing everyone off. They are rather vilified in my opinion, they are regular guys and gals just doing their jobs. Now, the government on the other hand....... ;):devil:

Most of us, I venture, slow down behind marked police cars on motorways to crawl past at 69 miles an hour before speeding up again to 80 mph, which seems average on the roads today. Presumably then we are all speeding past the unmarked cars, which must of course be travelling at no more than 70?
Unless the conditions or poor or there is a slow person in front of me I will pass Police cars at indicated 80 mph.

*touches wood* so far this has never been a problem.

You must find some real policeman and try it ;) and not those folk just going to a fancy dress night out

Didn't I read in a separate thread a speed camera was concealed in a horse box in North Wales not very long ago.

I was staying at Travelodge at Preston Road, Brighton where the room faced the speed camera. I was trying to sleep and I couldn't because I could see flashes thru the curtain. There were marks on the middle of the road. Drivers were thinking if the camera in front of you then it OK to speed. The camera was facing the drivers and monitoring speed on both sides of the road not only on one side. The camera flashed a couple of few minutes. Beware if you are driving to Brighton city centre from London road.

But they're all out to get me................

Oh, just gimme the paranoia prize;)

The police on the M3 have a couple of Skoda Octavia VRS's , one black , one silver that they terrorise the unwary in ....

Watch out , theres a skoda about ....

Yeah, I know this to my detriment.

Cost be £1500 in public transport alone.

Ref the unmarked Skodas mentioned earlier. Very nearly had the opportunity to meet one of these vehicle's driver. It was 'hiding' in front of a lorry in the inside lane of the Blackwater Valley Relief Road. Something about it, I must have a sixth sense, made me check the driver as I went past, sure enough a nice blue uniform.

One side effect of the clandestine focus on speeding, as opposed to visible presence and deterrence is to make me a worse driver. I spend too much time looking at motorway bridges, checking motorway junctions, trying to spot unmarked police cars, looking out for cameras, ensuring I don’t inadvertently creep over some arbitrary limit etc. and not enough time concentrating on the traffic and road situation.

Now I know someone is bound to say if you stick to the limit you have nothing to fear. I do try to stick to 30s and 40s, speedtronic a big help here, but on national limit / motorways I have to admit, in good conditions, to exceeding the limit from time to time as, I suspect, do a large percentage of motorists.

Oooooooo ..... Nasty ....

Take it you got busted then mate ? :(

A while ago now, yes..

Thankfully, he couldnt match my speed so evidence was opinion only. Still hurt, but at least I wasn't on the news or made to go to gaol.

This was the reason for selling the Hayabusa.

They are either brain washed sheep or the sort of people who would have thanked the Germans for coming back in the 40's.
