USB needs unplugging every time

So annoying.........

I have a 2010 C220CDi with Audio 20 + UMI / NAV upgrade.

After buying a USB stick, and downloading countless CD's onto it, I am having an issue with the UMI reading the USB stick every time the ignition is turned on. Basically if I leave the USB stick attached, when I turn the car on next time, it does not see the attached USB stick. To reset it I have to physically unplug the stick, and plug it back in. It then works perfectly, well it does sometimes pause while it is buffering or something, which isn't great.

Anyone able to confirm if this is normal for the UMI system, or have I got a fault?

Thanks in advance.

Just an update, bought a new high speed 16GB USB stick, and problems solved, resumes playing same song at ignition off (so NO USB message), and no more buffering. :)

Any idea why the old one didn't work properly?
I'd be interested to know what were the differences between the sticks?
Different capacities?
USB 2 versus USB 1?

Can't say what the differences are between them other than the first was a Novatech 2GB. Only cost about £5. I have heard there are cloned chinese USB's being sold as known brands. Perhaps that is the reason? An old 1.0 USB stick being sold as a new 2.0USB???? I did think the packaging looked a little suspect.

The new one I got was a SanDisc Cruzer 16GB, and works fine. :)
