V Power Petrol Prices

I’ve been using Texaco 99 octane for the last 6 months and I can recommend it as a good alternative to VPower, Esso and Tesco. Texaco that’s local to me is quite competitive, 2-3p higher than Tesco.

I didn't even know Texaco had 99 RON, is it relatively new?

Yesterday, in London, Shell V-Power Unleaded:

Price per litre £ 1.689

Sorry if thisis duplication, however, thisis the first time i have read this thread and I only wnet back to page 17.

Is the a countrywide shortage of some high octane petrol?
In Lancashire it is now very common to find the Shell and don't don't have their high octane petrol available; only the BP garages always seem to have it in stock but they are the most expensive and the RON feels like it has decreased over the years.

Average petrol prices have fallen below £1.50p for the first time since Russia invaded Ukraine last February, the AA motoring group says.
Pump prices hit a record 191.53p a litre in July, as global oil prices surged, but by Monday had fallen back to 149.74p.
The AA said it was "a huge relief for drivers" but noted diesel prices were still higher than last year.

Who cares about DIEsel ;)

^ Make the most of the <£1 50 per litre fuel.
Jeremy Hunt raised fuel duty by 23% starting in March '23 in his emergency budget last Nov.
Could add up to 12p a litre to petrol:wallbash:

I'm girding my wallet for that eventuality but - when questioned on LBC just before Christmas, he was very very 'non-committal' and got very uncomfortable when directly asked if that duty rise was a wise move, given the cost of living and how many people it'll end up negatively affecting.

I have a second runaround petrol car for a while that takes 98 Ron and putting in Tesco 99 feels like a bargain compared to diesel, which just refuses to come down in price. It’s been ~157.9p last couple of places, cs ~150.9p for regular Tesco petrol. Tesco diesel is 171.9 last time I checked, and I can’t get any cheap Redex any more.

I won’t go back to shell, especially not for an old runaround car.

I should probably be collecting club card points too, oops

I noticed that Tesco 99 has dropped into the 14x.x in Cardiff, which is pretty cool. Diesel still pretty high @ 20p more. I think it was 149.9, but can't quite remember. I seem to remember when I was paying that kind of price for Shell V-Power diesel, which I hope can return to that price one day.

Redex seems to have been bumped to £2.50 in Asda, down from the usual £2 (when discounted, which is the only time I buy it).

Also watch out on the Redex. My previous purchases have been e.g. on Tesco Club card 'offer' at £2 down from £4, but those have been two dose bottles; aim for half per tankful.

My most recent purchase of two bottles was, when I looked at the half empty bottle later having dosed the tank, I see it should have been at one full bottle per tank, but a bottle of the same size as two doses bottle.

Hence why I've now bought the Arcoil I recommended. I'll decant a guesstimate of fill up quantity into my empty Redex bottles and use that instead moving forwards (if you buy a litre of Arcoil, it's cheaper than Redex on previous offer anyway and is supposed to be higher quality). Amazon £26 a litre. 5 litres is better value still, and you only need to purchase 5,000 litres to get through that at 1000:1 dosing!

How strange, I've only ever seen the 2 shot one! All the once I bought are 2 shot, but I'll keep an eye out, cheers.

V at the other local shell is much better!

166.9
Before COVID v-power was 10p a litre more expensive now it averages circa 25p a litre more. I’d like someone to explain that, the additive must be a ridiculous price per litre

Lets be fair, the science is irrelevant at this point. Shell have been robbing people blind for years, selling a product with no discernible difference to the equivalent competition fuels in the market space (Tesco 99, Esso Synergy Supreme 99 etc).

Great for us equity owners :)

I'll try to upload an image from my phone.

You'll be able to see it says on the front it's for one tank (which I completely ignored when I bought it because you always used to pour half a bottle in a tank), but on the side they are still using the bottles with the half (1/2) marking for the stronger stuff where you only need half per tank.

Making pay at pump premium fuels look less unreasonable.

I have a large bottle sitting on the shelf in the garage, i used in the old diesel car, since having the newer diesel 220 i have only put V power in it. I keep looking at this bottle, What do you recon i should use it on the 220 after its been sitting on the shelf for 2.5 years, its 3/4 full, or throw it away and put myself out of the misery of looking at it? is it ok after 2.5 years when its been open.
