Hi folks.

A close friend has a W reg clk that looks like this: (It's a 320 petrol)

(PS Is this the w208 model series?)

Apparently the battery is Fu-Bar...

Is it a straight forward change i.e. 3 nuts and a 15 and 11mm spanner?

Where is it located (Engine bay or rear luggage area)?

And where is best to buy one from?

Usual places like GSF / Eurocar parts?

She has been quoted £158 to supply and fit, i thought that was a bit steep bloody rip off considering they are around £70 quid to buy...

For your help, opinions and advice.......Thanks in advance as always.

Battery is in the boot - remove the spare wheel cover and you will see it on the right - very easy to access.
You can get one from GSF or Costco - or Halfords if you're feeling flush.

After replacement, you WILL need the radio code, and to reset the esp/abs error message - turn the steering wheel from lock to lock a couple of times.
You will prolly have to reset the windows - just raise/lower them, and hold the switch for a few seconds when they are fully up/down.

Thanks Ted,

£61.95!!! on the shelf, incl VAT @ Eurocarparts, that's for a Bosch with a 3 year guarantee.

Cheap enough. What Ah is it ?

The one in mine is huge ( 100Ah ) and about one and a helf times the size of a normal battery.

That's what I checked with him, he said 100Ah.

Hi Timper

I had this problem with my CLK about 18 months ago and I carefully checked the battery spec. It's no ordinary battery as mine has a small vent - a 760 A (EN) and the manufacturer was VARTA. In the end - the cheapest place was Mercedes as the original part (A 000 983 33 08). I paid £109 and replaced it myself- took about 5 minutes. Ted is correct- you will have to reset a few settings like the radio and the windows etc. I noticed that you can get a VARTA branded one on eBay for about £ 65 (collect only).
