Some friends and i are going on a 2000 mile jaunt accross Eastern Europe this summer on a trip my mate has organised called the Dumball Rally.

http://www.dumballrally.org.uk/

The rules are the cars have to cost under £400..... We thought what better than a W123 for the trip.

So we got one for £200 a 280E with allegedly 69K on the clock (although it smokes like it's done 690K!

Thought you guys might like to see it.

Here it is as we bought it.

And here she is now.

I'm sure the purists amongst you will be pulling your hair out at what we've done but remember she was a £200 car with a smokey engine and a bit battered and bruised.

So far we've fitted new prop couplings, prop centre bearing, done engine and gearbox oil and filter changes, front discs and pads, new (old) tape player stereo, new (old) speakers, fitted a CB, alternator belt, painted her Land Rover matt black and fitted some Cibie Super Oscars 9as you can see in the pic.

Looks like the right tools for the job

Have a great time! Let us know how it goes.

Not so different to some examples kept by the MB Classic Center in Germany:

I think it looks good and I hope you have all the modifications you need to make the trip a sucess.

Good luck!

I would be more worried about the 10mpg economy....

She seems to be getting about 17 is we drive her VERY carefilly but thats still bad seeing as we're doin 2000m to turkey in her! plus we've just realised the speedo reads bout 9 mph fast so when we were doing 30mph and figured she felt slow cos she's big and wallowy and wondered what the line of traffic behing us was doing giving us the finger...... we were in fact only doing about 20 -23mph :o

If anything needs fixing, there is a street or area in Istanbul where they can make anything.

Thanks mate,

Unfortunately thats where the journey ends and the cars are either going to be sold or given to charity (minus the spots and other bits we bought)

Would be nice to sell them but apparently there's some law about selling cars that have been personally imported or something like that.
