Slightly confused…..
I am looking at replacing all 4 tyres.
My 230E (123.223) currently is currently fitted with 195/70/14.
The link here
http://mb.bolinko.org/wis/w123/CD02/Chassis/40-100.pdf
explains that the original set up was 175 R14 88 S or 88H (not sure what the 88 S/88H means)
I still have the original rims.
If I want to revert to the original setup, I do not understand what 175 tyre I am meant to look for? As there is no sidewall number.
Or will a tyre centre understand what it means?

Not sure that by 1982 the W123 230E in the UK came with such skinny tyres.

It's 80 or 82 series you need to search for if you are reverting to 175 width tyres.

S or H is the speed limit rating. S is rated to 112 mph & H to 130 mph.

I have a 1984 230e (123.223) and it has larger tires on it installed by the original owner a few years back, but the full size spare is in the trunk and has never been used. It is a 175 HR 14 Michelin. From my research it looks like a 185/70/14 is going to be the closest thing to the unavailable original tires.
