More New Parts to Fit

Just another quick update on the suspension sarga. Have decided to get the following work carried out. Gonna start with 3 nib springs pads to begin with and see how we go. Car is booked in for Monday am next week to get work done, hope to have her back for Wednesday as she is then booked into local alarm specialist to have a Cat 1 Alarm and Tracker Monitor fitted. Driving to France 13th Feb for 5 days, there's gonna be a lot of driving so good chance to see how she settles in with new set up/springs

Parts to fit as follows

4 x Brabus Lowering Springs
2 x New Rubber Strut Mounts - 1243201444
2 x Rubber Shims/Spring Pads 3 nib 18mm - 2013211184
2 x spacers - 1243210036
2 x Rubber Buffer's/Bump Stops (1 section to be removed) - 1243230644
2 x Rubber Boots - 1293230192
1 x Front Ball Joint (Drivers side) Passenger side was done when did last lot of work so may as well do this side whilst its in bits - 1243330327
Lower control arm bush kit - 1243300575

Car will have full alignment checks done again and see how we go from there. have decided not to change front shocks as the stock ones should be ok, hopefully....with this new set up.

Ride hide may prove to be to high for me in the long run once I have done some milage around France and she's almost settled in, but its no hassle changing the shims again.

Keep you informed...............

I think 3 nibs will be too much...2 nibs is probably ideal, but as you say, can be changed if they don't suit. Although you have to remove entire spring to change them so fair work to change.

Give the car a few weeks/miles to bed in on the new springs before changing spring apds, it'll take some time and miles for the height to settle.

Hi Talbir, yeah I think its best to start with 3 nib, see how she settles and then go from there. Will be a few hundred miles driven in France over the 5 days.

Nice work Paddy !

You'll like those springs, plus they look the cats knackers.

For matching colour, Spax do good shocks, even adjustables.

Motorsportworld.co.uk is good for sourcing....remember, w124 500E front shocks are identical to w201, w124 and r129 shocks with regards to physical fitment (except w124 4-matic). So if you find 190E Cossie shocks they are good, they are Sachs Supersport versiosn, perfect for a lowered set-up.

Worth renewing the spring pads, available from MB for a few squidders each. I'd go for 1 nib all round, the new springs will take time to settle in and lower to their height.

cheers

Tabir, do you know the part number for the correct fit Spax Adj for my car?

Paddy

I don't know the part no, but if you get the one applicable to an r129 500SL, that should work nicely.

talbir

Thought the existing stock ones would be ok, but had them off today and you can push them in with your hand with no return!! So need new ones....have to have car back by Thursday and stock ex germany 5 days....so looking at other options

Their bloody use-less, the specialists in Spax I have tried;

http://www.spax-suspension.co.uk/

...., aint got a clue what part should fit. I am not bothered about that to be honest.

I have left my self up against it as far as time constraints are concerned, because I need to have the car back for Wednesday Eve, Thursday morning this week.

Have managed to get Merc Benz Milton Keynes to get New Standard Shocks (W1243204330) on order and on a plain for an extra £25.00 delivery, so that they are here for Wednesday..... me hope's anyway

Why not get a factor to obtain some from Sach/Boge. The Boge part numbers should be 115069 and 102503.

yep local eurp car parts will keep these...

Anyone in lincolnshire?

I tried a co called ZF Trading who deal in sachs, gave them stock part number of 1243204330 and they said no match!

Brabus/Remus Rear Box

Yep, i that's a w210 Brabus rear box on the silver E, fitment points are almost identical, but a bit of modification to hanging points depending on how far you want it to poke out the rear !

Sound ? OMFG awesome ! Take the centre box out for full effect !! :bannana:

If your car is pre Aug 92, then take the cats out and fit a freeflow there, both for balancing and maintaining backpressure.

talbir

Hi Talbir, can you remember what the rear box looked like that you fitted to your'e/Jaymaneks E500

Here we have the following:

So would these parts be direct replacement genuine OEM then mate?

I have already ordered direct from mercedes in Germany you see, but could cancel tomorrow am

I am sure it would be cheaper to source the entire E60 AMG kit, springs + shocks + struts, knowing AMG have done all the required calculations. The kit can be purchased for circa £1,200 from Japan. (excludes the ARB).

talbir

Thought I'd resurrect this thread as I'm doing some similar work on my car. The noise I described in an earlier thread (well one of them) was due to a faulty rear SLS shock. I'm now looking to completely renew my system. I already have all the rubber necessary i.e. strut mounts, bushings etc and now need 4 springs and 4 dampers.

The mercedes OEM parts cost £1400 according to MB of Chelsea. For this reason I thought I'd see what the best after market options were and I have a few questions:

-What is the best possible set up on a 500E ?:) . Some people have Koni adjustable all round with H&R springs all round. How does this compare with the stock set up in terms of ride quality on the most forgiving setting?

-Could someone kindly direct me towards the AMG kit from Japan mentioned above. As Bolide mentioned earlier - this set up is the result of €€€€€ in research and must surely be the best sports set up.

I've tried to find it but to no avail. I spoke to AMG yesterday and they quoted me £2400 direct from AMG Germany for the full set - ouch! Is this set up 'better' than the stock/H&R&Koni set ups mentioned above. Talbir sold his set so I assume he felt his Koni set up was better but I was wondering if there was a chance anyone else had been in a position to sample the various set ups....

I want a future proof set up in that I'd like a system that could handle more power if I ever decided to go down that route, which is why I think the OEM system is not the best option.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I have Brabus springs on mine and id recommend the Koni adjustables... speak to Talbir, he has tried various setups.

You have to take me for a cruise in the E at the meet in June so I can see the difference.

Looking forward to it.
