Hi all,

I have an aftermarket remote central locking control kit that I'm going to fit to my '92 W124 E220 estate, I have it sitting in the shed and the locks are getting sticky on the car so I may as well install it. Thanks to advice over on the MB190 forum I think I mostly know what to do but I'm a bit stuck on where to locate it.

It breaks in to the blue control wire going to the driver or passenger door lock as in the diagrams below, I've locateted this wire in the drivers door but plan to use the passenger one, I assume the wiring is the same. The control unit is about the size of a pack of cigarettes so I plan to put it in the glove box and get power from the ISO connector on the radio, my cigarette lighter doesn't have a permanent live. I can then run the 18" antenna out of the glovebox to somewhere where it is "visible" to the remotes.

However, I'll need to remove the inside of the glove box to feed wires down to the rear of the radio and I can't see how to do this, is there a "How to" somewhere that would help?

I also need to run a wire to ground, where is best from near the glove box?

Finally, is it "glove box" or "glovebox"? ;)

I've included the relevant instructions from the kit in case anyone has a better solution. The instructions for a W201 and W124 are the same.

Many thanks for any help, always much appreciated.

I would use the drivers door control wire if that's what the instructions indicate. You could possibly locate the unit behind the side kickplate trim in the drivers foot recess.I have a feeling there's a power distribution block around there too which you could use. The first 190 I had ran the antenna thro abulkhead grommet and along the front of the black plastic heater intake grill in front of the wiper. It was secured with heavy duty black adhesive tape [duck tape] and was invisble being under the bonnet trailing edge "lip"

Thanks Graeme, I managed to get the glovebox out, just remove the plastic lugs all the way around and pull the inner shell out. But I might just go with your suggestion of the side kick panel, I know which wire in the drivers door wiring I need anyway.

Can I just fix the wire that needs to run to ground to a screw holding the door on?

Any good earth point should do,but I would be inclined to run an earth lead to one of the standard existing earthing points to be certain. Earth wires on Mercs of that vintage usually have brown insulation.

Thanks Graham, hopefully get another good weekend to finish off the job. I've managed to get power from the ISO block on the radio so not much left to do. Hopefully the remote kit is actually working after 18 months in a cold shed!
