Guys,

I am considering getting the car painted. Ive grown to like tourmaline green, but given the choice I may consider changing it up.

My initial thoughts are Brown, like back in the day Porsche brown seen on earlier 114's etc.

Or a very deep red/burgundy/oxblood something or other...

Does anyone have any ideas....or am i just losing the plot.

A couple of pics or present motor attached...bear in mind that i'd rather not change to interior;)

Leave it alone. Tourmaline + mushroom is a gorgeous combination.

Put some smaller wheels on it though ;)

yea losing the plot!

how far do you want to go with it? a blow over or a complete overhaul, its going to cost you big bucks of you choose the latter.

And while you are at it may aswel get a new rear screen, 1000+ RRP (unless of course you can get your insurer to replace for around 70 notes!) then treat the rust thats looming behind the rear screen, next to parcel shelf etc..

...treat your jacking points, sills, perhaps inner wing skins first. Have you removed the inner quater panel cards in the boot? does the floor pan look as dry as the sahara? Or does it look like there was an oasis there before?

this is all before you even think about spraying the car.

Best advice be logical mate. if you want to do it then id say do it properly. dont cut corners.

a really proper job for a respray would be near the 3000+ preperation of the body being the key.

LOL - thanks guys. It seems you are a bunch of purists;) its all good, im just thinking it out really. Don't get me wrong tourmaline is actually very nice, but this thing is about three different colours...and im not sure any proper Merc Tourmaline is left! Does anyone have any examples of Merc tourmaline green when it left the factory? I need to get some colour chips etc to investigate i think..

Yes and no mate. Boot has been investigated and all is well..although rust looming behind the rear screen? haven't investigated! But definitely need a new rear screen...and i think its chipped anyway..another thing to investigate!

yep, water creeps in mysterios ways! the same way your de-lam has happened, i bet thats knoked off your heated rear screen aswell.

you probably get very poor de-misting capababilities. The delamination messes up the heating elements in the glass causing it to non function properly.

bloody loads of colour options!

wasnt expecting that!

Tourmaline = Cat Sick.

I had a Tourmaline e320 Coupe, and after a clay barring it did look a lot better but still yuck.

no offense Tourmaline owners. but you know you never ould have chosen it would you...

Porsche Brown on a 124 would look fantastic. And it would emphaisze the mushroom leather so much.

It's not a 10k Resto project is it ? Have some fun. :thumb:

ps I will send the gear lever - keep forgetting

Rob.

ps in my six year 124 history the best upgrade is replacement engine mounts

whatever you do don't paint it beryl blue (code 888). its not common and looks great..but then I would say that.

I am another for keeping it the same. I like tourmaline personally.
