w124 Coupe - What colour would you re-spray??

Extra 50 BHp. :D

Well the old mounts had seen some action at 125K so I thought as part of a freshen up an old CE routine, I replaced them, and had new injectors fitted and a K+N.

The new mounts basically eliminated some tickover rocking, and really smoothed out the engine and it did feel a bit more responsive.

It was not a subtle improvement.

As it was such a simple job I had a mobile mechanic fit them at £40 Per Hour and about £45 per mount it was £130 well spent. He is only just VAT regiastered now but I use him a lot for basic stuff. He did do his apprentice ship at Merc as well. he's near enough to you Charan.

:D

So, here are some examples....

To be fair the maroon looks stunning, is it Ruby Red? The browns would suit a pre-facelift not modded c124.
Keep it Tourmaline!

You don't need us to tell you that you'd have to strip the car back to a bare shell - engine and interior out - to do a proper job.

That would really cost a fortune as any previous colour remaining visible would just devalue the car further.

My respray cost £2.5k (cash) out of a total of £4k.

...and tourmaline is a lovely colour IMHO...

thats such a beautiful car, it makes me considering selling my W210 E36 and buy one of these! and i think the green suits the car well too!

any day, shouldnt have to think twice! :thumb:

I'd keep the original colour. As already said, to change the colour properly will cost you thousands.

I think Tourmaline suits the 124 quite well  sounds silly but if you don't like the colour it'd be cheaper to change cars! :o

I've seen Charan's car in the flesh and to be honest it looks quite nice as it is, once it's been given some TLC to the bodywork that he's planning it should look fanstastic :)

Do you have any other pics of your motor mate? Looks very tidy! Did you go bare metal?

Thanks

Thanks for the input guys. I'm just messing around really. I don't think I would actually consider changing the overall colour on the car. I'm not actually ruling out a variation of tourmaline, but I've always liked the colour mysefl - i did buy it this way!

I think freshening up the paint, replacing the front wings and sorting out the one rust spot with a fresh lick of paint will result in the desired effect.

That's not Ruby, it's a special pearlesent paint by the look of it.

Charan. How did you do the colour changes, just using Photoshop or Gimp, or similar?

20 months on and it still looks the dog's :thumb:

Trouble is, like buying a new car, the first stone-chip breaks your heart. As I said somewhere in the thread, "it'll never look better" - and it won't!

I've had her for nearly 10 years and if I get another 10, I'll be over 70!:D

Good luck with whatever you decide, but remember, a good C124 has stopped depreciating.

Charan.

Keep your's as a donor and have a look at the one near Woodham. (New Haw) Opposite LA Motors on the Roundabout. its parked in the solicitors driveway.

It's a full specced c124 e320 with all the options. if you can get it for a £1000, the paint's pretty good.

that would be I think a better base to build a keeper from.

just my HO/

Those pictures look lovely :thumb:
If you like,go and see the chap who did my car for to sort out the body on yours
