W124... Highly Impressed

Found some 17 inch genuine AMG's already.
Shall I?

Yes  and welcome to the forum :thumb:

So just completed a straight 200 mile journey up the M1 from London.
I do this journey quite often. This has to be one of the most relaxed journeys I've had.
Not tired at all!
I just need a proper stereo in here. The std merc one is cr8p!! As are the speakers.
Becker with some proper speakers are required.

Some wind noise at speed so ordering new window seals.

Ordering the bilstein suspension too on wednesday. Going to decide between the sportline spec B4's and some new mercedes springs or a full B12 kit which should be similar to the AMG stuff (correct me if I am wrong).

Just to add. Filled up with 99 octane good stuff from Shell.
Afte 200 miles I have just over half a tank.
Did over 300 miles on the last tank with combined driving.

Amazing economy. I would say that! My v10 M5 barely does 200 miles to 60 litres.

I would say sportline is good enough for London otherwise,B6 and H&R springs would have been my choice

There are plenty of members here.
Maybe I should look to meet up with a few who have done suspension before ahead.

sportline springs will give you circa 20mm lowering vs. your stock suspension.

remember if thats not enough lowering or you need to raise, you have the rubber shims you can play with to 'fine tune' your set up. These are cups that the springs sit in.

Thanks Mike.
Definately agree with the social aspect of the multi seat cab. We were out in central london in my sisters one. Very enjoyable.
Incredibly comfortable in the rear too.
Lots of people look at these. I didnt expect that even though i always look when i rarely see them.

What do you mean about the mirror in the passanger side?

There's a little window in the map pocket on the passenger door, as below! As mentioned by kth, it shows MB's attention to detail. The window shows the mileage your next service is due when the service book is in place, so acts as visual reminder, unique to the coupés and cabs. Where the detail falls short, however, is that they didn't think of the rhd markets, along with the armrest, which would be better placed on the driver's seat! Note the shape of your door mirrors also, with a wide view for the driver's side and a deep view for the kerb side.

Why is it only cabs and coupes get that window? My car just has a little pile of those pink stickers in the door shut. I don't want one, am just wondering....?

Nice car, OP :)

Nice car, OP :)

'Cos we have less roof than everyone else!

the estate without the additional seats has two compartments sufficient to store all manner of things which is nice..

in fact the larger one was ideal for bringing home the 4 steel wheels when i collected the car

yup exellent thread,,has anyone fitted door pockets from a cab to a coupe(the cab ones appear to have speaker grilles?)

I agree with everything that has been said above. Mine is my first Mercedes, and I think I chose the range wisely, 4 full seats in a convertible with understated elegance, love it. :D:D

We’ve just done 600 miles this weekend down to Pembrokeshire and back and the car hasn’t missed a beat, been absolute perfection. Motorway driving, town driving, country road driving, I can’t fault it at all.:D:D

I think that many of the W124 may have reached a crossroads in there life though, and if they haven’t yet been adopted by a caring owner, the next five years are going to be tough for them.

Mechanically, I think they are tough, but it’s the structural bodywork where most of the battles will be lost. I’m still coming to terms with the fact that water is supposed to flow through the car and out the bottom. I’ve spent ages Dinitrol cavity waxing everywhere I can on mine. Hope I haven’t missed anywhere.:dk:

Great thread, thanks.

There is definately a decline in numbers on the road.

A few years back I would see some real nice saloons but those are non existent now.

You get the odd few coupe's and TE's. Most of the ones I see are very well cared for driven by those who want to own them.

You often see nice W124's in very nice areas.

Edgware road and around Marble arch there are some very special ones. Like 1 E36 AMG Saloon and an E500.

 I had to read this twice, you have tiny wheels!
Seriously - the boot is so massive, it is handy to have the compartments to stop things rolling around. I have the 7 seats but usually leave them set-up to make the larger footwell compartment available.

I am a very infrequent poster on the forum (only my second I think) but I had to come in on this thread because I love a bit of w124 respect. Top work everyone!

Great to meet a few of you at the w124 day and the Ace cafe meet. Hope next time I can put more faces to names. I'll try and get a bit more active on the forum.

Haha i meant wheels without tyres and with the lid up :D

my dog likes to walk around in the boot its so big:D

W124 sickness has firmly set in.

Looking at buying another one. Something very high spec like a saloon E320 with A/C, Leather and electric seats.

While I know the coupe's are really liked, I wonder what the general outlook is on a saloon these days. Old scrapper or still something that's respected?

I would it would be the latter!

Old Scrapper !
