W124... Highly Impressed

Saloon is the least desirable model. Having said that it means that you could pick up a really good car for very little money. Personally I like them and would have no problem running one. Our son ran a 1990 300e-24 saloon. A lovely car and it could really surprise more modern vehicles. My impression is that saloons are more likely to be neglected because of the perceived lack of sale value.

Found a real nice one.
And I mean real nice one!
Will update with images if i buy it.

There are hardly any of them in existence so it should look very nice once its very nice and shiny.

E500 is the other choice but i cannot justify such a car already owning an E39 M5 and E60 M5. The E500 in my opinion just cannot compete with the E39 in refinement, power, torque or drivability.

I really enjoyed an 11 year ownership of an E220 but I traded it in for a W124 E320 cabriolet with a slight cash adjustment !!!!!!!

I have an E34 M5 in pristine condition too, but am sorely tempted to buy a 500E myself.
The more I look at them, the more I want one to squirrel away. A facelift model since they have things like larger brakes, the inset grille, etc. Fuel consumption will probably be silly compared to the Turbo Diesel, so that's the main reason I probably won't buy one...
But they will be a classic in years to come and are cheap now. And I know where there's a plentiful supply of completely rust free ones! :D

I think this has become a W124 appreciation thread.

Here's a pic of my 1996 W124 E220 coupe, just back from being paint corrected. I also had the leather treated. I'm tickled pink, it looks like a new car! :bannana:

^ nice looking car there mike, have you been over the bodywork with a fine tooth comb? was there any sign of rust, if so where? or is it completely clear?

nothing obvious Nigel but I have not looked properly yet.
The intention is to get the underside cleaned properly, then nip in the bud anything that needs attention - than have a mate waxoil it

The E500 in my opinion just cannot compete with the E39 in refinement, power, torque or drivability.

The E39 is a different era compared to W124 E500. The E34 is one that supposedly competes.

W124 sickness has firmly set in.

Looking at buying another one. Something very high spec like a saloon E320 with A/C, Leather and electric seats.

While I know the coupe's are really liked, I wonder what the general outlook is on a saloon these days. Old scrapper or still something that's respected?

I would it would be the latter!

im going to be selling my (39k miles) E320 saloon as my wife is on the warpath as ive just bought a 211 e500 estate. just having a new ECU after a recent new wiring loom - its a hi spec although mb tex (some like it) with climate , electric orth heated seats etc. i think the saloons are very understated but there are not many good ones left.

E500 before I sold it !

Last summer before it went
