Hi All,

Hoping you'll have some ideas about this.

Car: A-Class W168 210 Evolution

Manual gearbox.

On starting the car, after it has been parked (always on level ground), if the car is cold it will not go into 1st or 2nd gear. It will always go into 3rd gear. After driving the car for a few minutes it will drive as usual, and go into all gears.

Any ideas what could be causing this? The car is a very well maintained 2002 W168 Evo.

Thanks all,
R

Any additional thoughts to what I have been advised the following, on a previous thread, which was:

Checking the gearbox oil
check the clutch hydraulic fluid level
also...clutch slave or master cylinder issue

Thanks

One thing to check is there is a plastic clip on top of the gear linkage mechanism on top of the gearbox.

This is prone to breaking and causes gear selection problems

It may also need the linkage lined up properly.

Thanks guys, be most grateful. We took it to the garage and they said that the gearbox needs replacing/stripping to find the fault. But not sure about that, would like to get a second opinion.

Linkage - both plastic clip and lining I shall keep in mind, cheers. I assume that's cheaper than the replacement we've been quoted.
