Time for another 'newbie' question!
Im currently doing some work on a friends 1994 W202 C280 (straight six). Short story of the long, its been laid up for a year and im 'trying' to get it to MOT std and back on the road. Todays issue (apart from the central locking...another thread!) is that when reved in neutral its hitting the limiter at 4000 RPM (I had been cleaning the MAF and throttle).
Is this normal (I would think not) or could this point to another potential issue?
Im unable to road test due to lack of MOT/Tax etc
Thanks for any assistance, the way im going im going to know these inside out over the next few weeks :D

i would say that is normal.
Mine hits the limiter in neutral about a little to the right of the middle of the rev range but mine is a manual 180 though.
something to do with fuel cut off to save the engine

Thankyou :)
First Mercedes of this ilk Ive had the pleasure of working on, and its the only car Ive known so far that does it - nice to know though
Cheers

I would agree, this is normal. My auto C180k in neutral revs to about 4k revs and then won't go any higher, but when I then switch off the ESP, put it in "S" then floor it it easily red lines in all gears right up to 4th. (Not brave enough to keep flooring it past that - way too fast for me!!!):D
