w202 C55 AMG

Doesnt suprise me that it comes up as a C43 - im sure I read that according to MB it doesnt offically exist. IIRC there are only 3 RHD ones.

If it isn't official to MB, then I guess it'd be almost impossible to find build figures.
This is the 3rd W202 C55 I've seen for sale. There was a black one featured in Merc Enthuisat, and another C55 with 80k+ miles when it was last for sale. So that definately 3!
I've seen a C55 for sale with Sovereign Cars and with Mercedes Crawley, but I would guess it's this particular example, as the mileages add up from what I remember.
Sovereign quoted 7 RHD C55's being made, and figure duplicated in the Mercedes Crawley advert, IIRC.
This current add quotes of figure of 5 C55s having been made.

Whether these figures include C43s which were converted is anyone's guess!

Its not a standard car. COMAND wasnt offered on the W202 from the factory plus those mirrors are not W202 ones. I think its a heavily modified C43 myself.

Must admit, I didn't notice the COMAND install when I saw it.

I'm pretty sure it's a bona fide C55, I actually remember when this car was for sale before Nigel bought it.

It does appear to be showing up as a factory C55 from the build sheet:

i do like the look of that Designo Orange one I must confess!... I remember a few years back Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear test drove a R129 SL73 AMG in the same Designo Orange, now that was a rare car!...........

That's what it's badged up as.

In perfect black (040?) paint, chrome exhausts and (I think) G55 AMG wheels.

Certainly an unusual and different beast to a normal G-wagen, I think the 560 engines were about 300bhp standard?

That will be scary - I presume he's played with the brakes.....my father has a 1991 GE300 - a tank of a car with handling and brakes to match. He's had about 6 over the years and each one acts like a snowplough if you brake heavily in the wet - a serious brown-trouser moment as over 2 tonnes of metal hurtles inexprably towards the dry-stone wall...

why doesnt someone just check that insurance finder website, which is on another thread?? it should give us the engine size!

& a C55 AMG I found for sale in Japan...

http://u-benz.ruhenheim.com/details.php/3757/

Ah the one from J AUTO. They have alot of E500/500Es, and well as a few 6.0 "Hammer" engined SECs, and the odd 6.0 widebody SEC too!
They seem to offer huge brakes, too. An E500 has Ferrari F50 brakes, while another has Porsche Cayenne Turbo brakes!

But here's another C55 from Japan.

That dealer had a 300E 3.4, a Brabus 3.6 estate and a RHD 190E 2.0 Turbo last time I browsed the website.

I'm pretty sure the original VIN is accurate enough? (showing the vehicle to be an original C55 AMG)...

Hi Mark,

To be honest, I think he'd played with most of it, and it was really as much for his own fun to be honest.

The entire car was a work of art, complete exhaust was fabricated from scratch himself, manifolds - the lot, in stainless steel. There were four individual recaro leather seats with about 10 or 20 buttons on each, apparantly cost around £4K a piece?

The rest of the interior was also fabricated/trimmed, 5x G55 AMG wheels were fitted, I'm sure he'd have done whatever was needed after the time and money that he'd invested in the rest of the car. Technically, a pointless excercise but I'm sure he has had fun building/driving it

He runs a very well regarded MB, Audi and Landrover garage (BBG - Buryas Bridge Garage)
