W202 owners .........

Greg.

I see what you are up to, but I can't believe their is any correlation between BHP and a 0-60 time.

Wieght, drag, driver reaction, grip, weather, sorry, too many factors.

Graham

But with the autos its mainly stand on the go peddle and wait! I reckon that within half a second the relationship between performance and power stands. we need a clever mathmatician to help us!

Morning Pluggers,
I am a bit slow this morning, so please correct me if I am completely wrong. Are you suggesting that you think your speedometer might be reading on the 'low' slide? Namely if your speedometer states 60mph, your real speed might be 65mph?

If my suggestion is correct, then I am of the opinion that you have an individual problem, or modification issue. Manufacturers have a reasonable percentage leeway for optimistic claims but none for just the opposite.

Any car owner that could prove his speedometer was reading 'low' must surely have a **defence against a speeding fine.

**Obviously reckless speeding, tampering with, or modifying the speedometer, wheels etc. will invalidate that statement. I am simply saying that a bog standard car, with a bog standard untampered with speedometer should never read on the low side.

We are reading of prosecutions for speeds of 32mph in a 30mph speed limit. Usually the car speedometer will be indicating a speed in excess of the prosection states.

Sorry if I have got this completely back to front.

Have a nice week-end,
John

Good afternoon John :D

I hope I can word this ok so here goes,The reason I think my speedo is off is not down to mechanical probs or manufacturing but more down to the tyre sizes on my car.In standard form I think I should be running 195x60x15 tyres but when I bought the car it had CLK wheels running 215x55x16 which make it slightly larger in diameter about 9mm as it was said in another thread,I cant remember which one or I would post the link :o So it will IMO read slightly out maybe not 5mph but realy it was only a ball park figure. For the purpose of this test I could start the stopwatch from rest ok but knowing when I actually reached 60mph would be hit and miss but only by a few mph.I guess I am lucky in one way tho' that I never got caught by one of those speed cameras that dont have any leeway because upto the other day when I first found out about the different diameters of the wheels and how it could affect the speedo reading when I came across a speed camera I would slow down to the limit indicated by my speedo.Of course I could be wrong on this and everything is worked by the speed pulse which might not be affected by different wheel diameters and I could have a true speedo reading in which case my car is very slow 0-60mph.

What gear do your 4 and 5 speed autos hit 60 in?
In my 4spd I can just hit 60mph bouncing it off the limiter holding it in 2nd gear. But if its in drive it will change into 3rd about 55mph.

We all need to borrow or rent Maffs gadget and do a run or two and then publish the results, maybe there will be opportunity at the Bruntingthorpe day.

When I had the TD Tuning chip fitted I did several runs using the stopwatch on the phone, I know that my speedo is spot on 60mph whent the needle is just past the mark on the dial.

I reckon with the tuning box it was around 7.5-8.5 second mark, running as standard for a few months it was more like 10 seconds but felt slower. Now with a minor modification I reckon it is between 8-9 second, it feels quicker than that but got to be realistic, anyway it feels much quicker when rolling than it ever did, 50mph upwards is very good.

Well, I did think it was really quick until Billy let me have a blast in his E55AMG this week :D He described it as a fire breathing, snorting, dragon in disguise, that it certainly is!

Hi Pluggers,
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond. Sounds like you are all having fun and your explanation about the tyres has even managed to penetrate my thick 'bonce'. ;)

I wonder how the C30AMG diesel would perform? (Guess I'm off to find out)

Thanks again,
John

Ahh...but not a W202!

Good try! ;)

I think someone said that they only came in LHD? Not officially made for this country?

I am sure John will fill in all the gaps! :p

Cheers,

Will

If only!!

I am having problems at the moment, but 0 - 62.5mph in 6.8sec. seems to ring a bell.

[/url]

There we are then.

Only a diesel AMG could be as slow as my car................runs for cover!!!

hehe Just Kidding! I'll respect your diesel as long as you don't try and tell me it doesn't rattle and puff smoke :p

Had another go at this tonight,2 weeks ago I poured injection cleaner in my cars fuel and have been using it daily,Also have new gear box oil(dont know if its makes any difference but mentioned it anyway)Same road and roughly same amount of fuel left in the tank and managed 9.3 first attempt 0-60mph and 9.1 seconds 0-60 on the second attempt without too much effort so a great result for me,hopefully times might get better if I try a couple more times. If anyone is thinking performance is down I would deffinatly recomend using injection cleaner first as youve nothing to lose and maybe an extra second off your 0-60 times. :bannana: One thing Greg I forgot to mention earlier was that I have a performance exhaust fitted not just the Remus back box so dont know what the bhp output is likely to be? stated earlier in thread was "C200 with K &N 142bhp 9.9sec Pluggers with k&N" Any ideas m8?

195/60 x 15 will give a diameter of 615mm
215/55 x 16 will give a diameter of 643mm

the difference is 4.55%

indicated 60 x 1.045 = actual 62.73 mph

Assuming spedometer error to be +3 to +5% then your speedo is probably the most accurate we have on the forum. ha ha. :)

You need to check it against a Gps unit or measured mile or Km markers on the motorway.

we tried ours against a GPS just out of interest

30 mph indicated = 29.8 actual
60 mph indicated = 59.9 actual

and that was close enough for me

Yours can be the official calibration car from now on.

What's it like at keeping up with all the others for all the 0-60 sprints you're going to have to time from now on. :)
