w202 sensor under seats

After managing to separate the yellow connectors in my car, I decided against Dieselman's suggestion of repositioning the wires for the red connector in my 'new' leather seat base, as the red and yellow connectors are different shapes and have different connection pins entirely.

I'd prefer to avoid taking two seat bases apart to swap pads, so I got hold of a replacement sensor pad with the same yellow connector as my car has. As a test before fitting it in the leather seat base, I connected this replacement sensor pad to the car and switched on the ignition - but after a few seconds the SRS light came on :(. After re-connecting the yellow connector from the pad in the existing cloth seat, all is well again, but I want to use the replacement sensor pad in the leather seat base I'll be fitting.

Since the SRS light came on, does that mean the replacement sensor pad is faulty, or does it need to be fitted into the seat pad first before it will operate fully, or could it be something else? The part number on each yellow connector is identical (0335455028), although the last character of the numbering above it is different - one has 4-968696-2A, the other 4-968696-2C.
