As the title really!

My w203 c220 cdi has been cutting out for no apparent reason - usually on cold mornings. I have owned the car since last April, it is an 03 plate with about 50,000 and a full MB history.

It first did it just after I got it and then it was fine during the summer, however, since it has started to get colder it has cut out a couple of times and sometime the gear changes are jerky, almost like it misses a gear...

The car has a tier 1 warrantee which runs out in April so I want to get it sorted before then ;)! #

I suspect it might be the MAF?

Any ideas!?

Do not forgot that these boxes are designed to hold onto the lower gears when cold to warm up the CAT quickly, its namely 1st-2nd or 2nd is held if W is used

I didn't know that, but the jerky gear changes seem to happen randomly... although from drive into reverse seems a common one.

Also forgot to say that it seems to cut out when cold and under load (up a hill for example), but it restarts again no problem!!

Possible Valeo (radiator) problem?

The Valeo issue would not cause the engine to cut out, the same goes for the MAF as it has little or no effect at idle.

The Valeo problem makes a droning or humming at 1600-2000 rpm sometimes accompanied by a small viabration

Would the MAF have an effect when the car is moving - it seems to be cutting out when it goes to change gear (from 2 to 3 or 3 to 2), not at idle?

Yes the Maf could do this, on most cars you can unplug it and try the car, if it comes back to life, then you have the answer

My 98 Automatic C240 sometimes cuts out sitting in traffic - very annoying. I tried to adjust the tick over by adjusting where the accelerator cable is attached at the top of rear the engine - all it seemed to do was increase the tick over when in Park - in D is still sits around 600 ... which i feel isn't helping - why would it tick over at 1000 in Park and 600 in D ?

sorry what is a valeo problem ?
