w203 c230 auto gearbox stuck in 1st gear

hi all i have a 2001 c230k coupe i have a problem that when i take it out of park and then in to drive it some times jearks with a bump noise and then it is stuck in 1st gear and wont change even manualy on the gear stick +/- i have to stop take it out of gear turn off the enging and when i restart it its ok then but its started doing it about 3 or 4 times a week now

i have the same problem at the ,moment , keeps sticking in 3 or 4 gear . stop the car take out key restart and works fine for a while ! i have had the codes read and it pointed to the selecta module ! locking in what ever gear it chose , i have brought a second hand selecta for the same year as mine !! i have been told it wont have to be reprogrammed as its only the later modules with the ecu in the gear box , ill let you no next week when it arrives !!!

i was in the garage on wednesday , they drained the oil checked for debris in the oil pan ( nothing very clean ) said the oil was ok and put back in the gear box , i had a fault reading of " selecta lever position detection failed " , the mecanic said the lever module needs to be replaced !! merc 500€ plus fitting plus vat !!! have got one on flea bay , he said the earlier models sare not linked with the ecu so no need to connect to computer !! oh my car is a c220 cdi coupe sport 2002 !

does. hate typing on phone. new control unit has to be adapted with stardiag as far as I know

hi mauno , its not a new one, its from the same model and year !! this is what the merc mecanic said !! ill let you no in a weeks time , fingers crossed because if you dont buy it from merc they dont wont to no !!!

I understood that the one is not new. in my sds there are an option to take over settings from old unit or manual setup if old unit is unreadable.and that applies to change setup of an used one. just pm me anytime if you need the help

mauno i cant pm you until i post 30 times wow !! now i have problem with dash showing tail gate open ! but it isnt !! what next ? next week some thing else !!!!!

hi mauno , well had the gear selecta fitted today and hey !!! its like driving a new car , now back to what it used to be !! gear selecta module e bay , 25 quid
40 quid to fit ! and hey almost new car again !! phew , thought of the mercedes price kinda spured me on ha ha !!
