W203 Cold Start Acceleration Hesitation

Pull the MAF sensor out, read the number on it. Give it a good wet spray of CRC maf cleaner or electroincs cleaner etc, shake dry, reinstall.
Tell us what happens.
Ive seen them get contaminated in 3 months. Usually from a dirty oil seperator and hoses on top of rocker cover.

Where is the MAF in a W203?

Was this also a problem on the W202 C200?
I'm having engine problems at the moment, especially when cold. I do know, in the past, that I have cleaned up oil in passenger foot well also.
Connected?

What happens if we leave these problems alone?

1997 C200,
I bought this car without test driving it (ebay) it is in great condition for its age and mileage (120k), full service history up to 102k then nothing, so obviuosly due some work on it.
I collected the car and found it sluggish to drive, and hesitant acceleration when pulling away from a junction etc but gearchanges etc all seemed normal.
I set about cleaning the engine bay and just as I finished I noticed the connector to the MAF was not fully pushed into place so I sorted that.
Next morning come to go to work in my pride and joy, engine poured grey smoke and sounded like it was firing on only 2 cylinders, it would start then die repeatedly, so I lifted the bonnet and disconneted the MAF ...it started 1st time idled stable at approx 800rpm and no grey smoke, it now seems fine but still is sluggish and hesitant. I changed the air filter and had oil/filter change.
I purchased a new Merc MAF..damn..£270!!!...fitted it and crossed my fingers when I turned the key, hey it started 1st time with no smoke but seems to idle slightly roughly at about 500 - 600rpm, still hesitates and sluggish and when I drive it the acceleration seems to come in waves instead of progresively, the gearbox has become snatchy and seems a bit erratic at times!
I disconnected the MAF and it runs better without it!
So I have read through a few MERC forums and this is what I have decided I must do, spend a lot of time and effort trying to sort this out and very possibly £1000 - £2000 doing it, I paid £1300 for what I believed to be a very nice motor for its age and I have since become very dissaluisioned! I know its an old car and I accept that I would have to spend maybe £300 or so servicng and sorting little problems out but never expected this outcome...if I run the car as it is with the MAF disconnected will the problems get progresively worse or stay as they are? I can cope with the sluggish hesitant thing and it seems to be returning about 25mpg (I am happy with that figure) or shall I cut my loses and get rid of it as I think it is going to be a very very expensive hobby, I am a biker at heart and had very few problems with my bikes, I ditched my bike as I am getting a bit too old for them now, but starting to wish I stuck it out!

Yes. The cam actuator is leaking oil into the loom and fouling the ECU and sensors.
You need a modified connector loom and to clean the ECU and sensors out.

Hi,
where can I get the special cam magnet adaptor cable and the other is 722.6 service kit and also revised sump plug?
I live in the North East of England , are these MB parts or can I buy them online? do I need part numbers? if so which parts?

I bought my 722.6 gearbox oil, filter and sump joint off www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk Inchcape Oxford off their website. Other members say that may be cheaper from your local MB parts but i have to travel about 40 miles to collect so worked out cheaper from Inchcape.

Turns out after replacing the MAF sensor £170, and replacing the Camshaft position sensor £105 Merc part, it runs like a dream, no ECU problems or wiring loom faults....feel sorry for the guys that have been told to replace their ECU etc!!

Hi, turns out, I replaced the MAF sensor £170 and the Camshaft position sensor £105, had the system set up at a local Merc specialist £40, the car now runs like a dream!!

Methinks that I may have a similar problem with the C180 Avantgard that I have recently purchased from an independant dealership. :(

I have had the engine checked and it showed no faults but the fuel consumption is not great particularly after start up.......

Miro? i have heard a lot about these wiring loom extenders that stop the flow of oil.. Yet when we had this problem with a CL600 they didnt have a clue what I was talking about...
Do you have any part numbers?
