W203 Power loss (plus screens from star diags)

You are looking at roughly £30-50 to get it looked at for an hour on a Star by a specialist/independent.

The part is not expensive. I can't remember how much though.

Without some proper time investigating what the fault is it is impossible to say how long it will take. Its a bit like "How long is a peice of string"?

OK, so I haven't touch MAF yesterday and will go to Exeter Mercedes garage on Sat to see if new faults are stored/active.

Can someone recommend any good garage in Exeter with STAR diags or should I go to Mercedes Of Exeter? :)

Thanks for really great advice!
GREAT FORUM!!!

Cheers
Chris

MAS sensor will NOT cause the fault codes you have.

I agree with BlackC55's suggestions, check the boost pressure first.

You are right.
Typically air-mass-problem don’t cause any fault code.
Until it is totally damaged.

Measuring boost pressure is a good advice.
In MB system power increase depends on boost pressure rising.
If the boost pressure don’t rise enough, or rises too high, system don’t give full power.
If boost pressure causes limp mode, restart always removes it.
If the actual and specific boost value are too far away from each other, “check engine” will light.

I am driving a bit over 2bar boost pressure.
With similar car.
I have had all the fault codes, and many more faults, too. :D

Thanks!

So is there anything what I can do now? I'm working till 6pm so can't really go to Merc until Sat...

MANY thanks for great help and time!
Cheers

I agree with the above, it sounds like a maf problem to me.
Good luck.

OK, so there is 2:2.
Some people are saying that this is MAF and some are saying that this is not MAF :)

Should I just go to Maplin, buy some alcohol and clean MAF anyway? As a evening exercise? It looks to me like 30-60 min job and having such a nice weather I can take my missus to se the see and relax while I will clean MAF :)

Thanks!
Chris

Why not?.......A minimal cost exercise with nothing to lose and everything to gain! ..... no brainer :D

The maf is broken. then, if you unplug it it should mess up the performance. if it is not, then it is broken

yeah you can, but cleaning mine made it even worse. i just had to buy new one for about 180 quid but then black C55 is an experienced guy.

I doubt it's the MAF, more likely the MAP sensor.

You can test the MAF yourself by metering the voltage output on Pin5. It will be approx 2v and idle rising to 4.5v at full revs on boost or 4.2v no boost.

Can I just go and buy MAP sensor (or order it online) and replace?
Or it would be quite complicated and things can go wrong?

Thanks!
Chris

OK,
Maybe it is ME but can weather affect my car (or sensors)?
Today, when car was showing only 12C car had - I think- better power etc. When was cold :)

Is that anything related to my problems? I so can't wait until they will be fixed!
It is really annoying :(

Many thanks!

On a damp day a diesel will always go better, air is denser when cold than when hot.

Hi!

I have my car diagnosed and it looks like Air Mass Sensor is GONE!
labour and part will cost me around 300 - should I do it by myself or let the indie do it?
How much part would cost me?

many thanks!

Chris

£300 is a little excessive.

Give Euro Car parts a call.

434220200 - number from Europarts website.
Is that what I'm looking for?

many thanks Ollie!

Cheers
Chris

OK

So there are two sensors - one measuring temp and the other one measuring air flow - and both those sensors are showing stored faults. Car today drives fine!

Shame that they don't have DATES in logs like operating systems :)

So could the part be £250 with VAT or is it still to expensive?

many thanks!
Chris

The indie itself seems to be OK and knows what is doing. I might bite the bullet and just go ahead!

Could anyone please tell me where I can find one? I've checked with few stores in Exeter but no one had Bosch... :(
Euro car parts seems to be doing only 3rd party.
I've looked on google but couldn't find anything :(

many thanks!!
Chris
