I've been thinking about have my brake calipers & hubs painted professionally but due to the lack of people that do this locally, I've decided to do it myself in the next couple of months.
I've read all the guides on the forums etc I'm going to leave the calipers on the car, wire brush, wire wool, brake cleaner then Hammerite Smooth.
I'm not sure though to go for Black or Silver ?
Mask the Mercedes Benz Logo or paint over & fit decals ?

I remember a while back someone on here done the same to Sports Pack calipers, masked the decals and they look great, I just can't find the thread/post.
Here's a couple of picture's of my Calipers as the currently are, any opinions/ideas greatly appreciated !;)
Oh my wheels have been redone in Smoke Chrome.

I did the same but used proper high temp Caliper paint, came as a kit which included, paint, brush, brake cleaner, all for around £18 inc delivery, cleaned the MB logo off and put on AMG decalls form ebay £2.50, there was enough paint for all 4 calipers and wheel hubs for at least 4 coats, very easy to do, my took around 30mins per side as I took the caliper off but left the hose connected, just strapped the caliper up to the coil spring while painting.

Thanks for that,
I've just read your thread on the subject, Have you got any pictures ? Where did you get the "kit" from and the decals ?
Thanks :thumb:

NO need for the proper caliper paint, Hammerite will be perfect, ive painted many calipers and never had a problem, cheaper too LOL
IMO Silver colour looks the best

Steve

Sure, Hammerite will do just as good job, although drying time for hammerite is a lot longer than the paint kit I used, can't remember where I got it from but if you just do a Google search on Caliper paint kit it will throw up loads, I also agree silver looks best.

yep don't waste your money on Caliper paint, mine are done in smooth Hammerite after painting take the hair dryer to them to harden them off and whilst they are still just tacky apply the decals and they will stay on forever even when pressure washing, mine cost me the grand total of £7.98 will try and dig out the photos. If you look at THIS thread you can just see my calipers through the wheels, been done over a year now and still fine.

THanks for the replies so far ! :thumb:
My intension was Hammerite all along, just not sure, silver or black, looks like silver is the preffered colour.
If I do go for silver, I'm not sure if white decals would show up, so would probably have to go for black decals.
The guy on Ebay that sells the "Mercedes-Benz" decals is advising aganst Hammerite, saying the decals won't stick very well . He is recommending paint from Brake Caliper Specialists. Professional Brake Caliper Painting, Repair and Remanufacturing Services. If i did follow his advice, I'd try to get the paint the same colour as my wheels, Smoked Chrome - like a light graphite.
What do you all think about the hubs, Silver or Black ? or same as my wheels if I go for that paint ?
Thanks Again :thumb:

Put the decals on when the paint is tacky and they wont move mine still look perfect on hammerite. My nephew went the paint caliper route decals and then laquer and it flaked off within 9 months and that was with a £50 kit
