W205 C-Class Press Release

so i have some bad new for the traditionalists.

I had a call from a dealer and we started talking on the 205.

He spoke to colleagues and confirmed, the new e class will NOT be offered to the UK with the traditional grill

only the vulgar bonnet star.

Anyway i questioned this suggesting the 4 spec lines, and he said UK have decided on the ones with out the bonnet star

I can not express enough my fustration and dissapointment, as i can not have a saloon with such a vulgar star on the bonnet.. its not what i had ever come to know of Mercedes and its not something i personally will ever want to purchase.

The bonnet grill star works well on slks and sls etc.. but not on a 4 door saloon, even the CLS is not ideal, but it works, but the c class and e class look like snouts picked up at a farm.. really quite dissapointed today with this update

oh well.. the search continues

You wont buy the car just because of its grill!?!

Import an Elegance grill/surround from the Fatherland - they will be cheap as chips after a few months.

The whole Big Star grill nosense is a result of all those owners for the past 10 years swapping their grills for eBay jobbies. MB are only doing what our market dictates!

I wonder whether the bonnets are different for the different star treatments ..

But it won't just be the grill. The configurator's live on the MB Deutschland site and it offers four distinct model lines: Standard, Avantgarde, Exclusive and AMG, and you can mix and match the exterior and interior features. MB UK (if they follow the same route as they did with the E-Class) will offer two model lines: SE (Avantgarde in Germany) and AMG, with the interior and exterior being from the same model line.

That's not offering what the market dictates, it's dictating to the market.

Afternoon all. Has anyone got any idea whether there will be a V6 CDI?! I am sorely tempted by one of these in a few years but a big diesel would be an absolute must! I can see no mention of one in any UK release but have seen mention of a C400CDI elsewhere which was definitely a replacement for the 350. Maybe I've missed something?

The run away success of the BSG on the W204 has dictated that this is what the market wants.

When was the last time you saw an upright star on a W204? there are virtually none.

As st13phil says its restricting choice for customers. Its not just trim ---its engine choice and probably a host of combinations of other options. This restriction appears to to unique to the UK market with most other European markets offering the same choice as the German market. It why the MB UK website online configurator for these models is never repeat never! available as it diverges so markedly from the other markets. Mercedes sales continue to do well in the UK by offering extremely competitive finance deals but whether this can be sustained in the long term if interest rates rise remains to be seen. :dk: If you then have to depend on model appeal again for increased sales I see no value in the penny pinching restriction of MB UK buyers choice as a long term strategy if it drives loyal customers away and devalues the brand. Das Beste Oder Nichts as long as it has a profitable bit of AMG body kit on it. Yeah right!

So the lack of imagination and insecurity about not following the herd displayed by the "thrusting junior exec" BMW and Audi drivers that MB UK is relying on for their sales growth means that the more discerning amongst us have to accept a lack of choice?

:p ;)

Get an s class then... ;-)

I think it looks great and given my progression from 202, to 203 ,to 204, I guess I'm a pretty likely buyer for the 205 model...But given that I drive a 3.5 V6 W204 and hate diesels (yes I know they've come on but they still sound like tractors around town) can I really only opt for a C200 with 156bhp :(
Have you been in a 320/350 cdi ? It's virtually undetectable as a diesel and goes like stink !

swopping involves an entire new front end, not a grill only!

I'm confused about what grill you like and don't like?? The slk doesn't have a bonnet star nor has the SL for a long time?

According to the JESMB site news post of 16/12/2013, the full engine lineup (note that MB UK won't import some of these) will be:
C 180 BLUETEC: 115 HP, 280 NM, 1.6 liters of displacement, order release June 2014, delivery 09/2014
C 200 BLUETEC: 136 HP, 320 NM, 1.6 liters of displacement, order release June 2014, delivery 09/2014
C 220 BLUETEC: 170 HP, 400 NM, 2.1 litre capacity, consumption 4.0 diesel, order release 16.12.2013, delivery from 15.03.14
C 220 BLUETEC BlueEfficiency Edition: 170 HP, 400 NM, order release from April 2014, deliveries commencing in June 2014
C 250 BLUETEC: 204 HP, 500 NM, order release from April 2014, deliveries commencing in June 2014
C 250 BLUETEC 4matic: 204 HP, 500 NM, order release from June 2014
C 300 BLUETEC hybrid: 204 HP + 27 E-PS, fuel consumption 3.9 litres, order release June 2014
C 180: 156 HP, 250 NM, M274 DE 16 AL, consumption, 5.0 liter, order release 16.12.2013, delivery from 15.03.14
C 180 BlueEfficiency Edition: 156 HP, 250 NM, M274 DE 16 AL, Bestellfreigab June 2014
C 200: 184 HP, 300 NM, M274 DE 20, AL, consumption 5.3 litres, order release 16.12.2013, delivery from 15.03.14
C 250: 211 Horsepower, 350 nm, M274 DE 20, AL, order release from April 2014, deliveries commencing in June 2014
C 300: 238 PS, M274 DE 20 AL, order release probably not before June 2014
C 400: 333 PS, M276 DE 30 AL, 3.0 litre V6 BiTurbo, 2nd half of the year 2014
C 63 AMG: 460-500 HP, M177 DE 40 AL, 4.0 liter V8 BiTurbo, order release October 2014
C Plug-In Hybrid: M274 DE 20 AL, 238 PS + 68 E-PS, order release 2015

(Note that the diesels are all rebadged "BLUETEC").

It also notes that:
The 6-cylinder CDI OM642LS is no longer scheduled for the W205. It is questionable whether the six-cylinder OM656 in the W205 comes in 2016/2017

Finally, it notes that the 9G-Tronic gearbox should be available in 2015 in the W205, but doesn't give a date or which model(s) it will be introduced on.

So that looks like the end of the V6 diesel C-Class, and perhaps the end of all V6 C-Classes for the UK.

It's the proportions of the vehicle.

The BSG has always suited the low slung, low roof MBs.
That's why it works on a CLS but looks awful on the W211 despite them being the same size and having the same underpinnings.

Thanks for that st13. I do think that's a real shame and a mistake on MB's part if it is the case. I know the V6 market isn't big especially when their 4 cylinders are so good. However, doesn't it leave them exposed to 330/340d's and A4 BITDI's? Especially as the current C350CDI is such a corker! My C250 does 99% of what I'd want it too but I do much prefer the sound, smoothness and ridiculous pace of the 350.

I was really hoping it wasn't the case but I suppose a C63 would fill the gap... Especially if the coupe version looks anything as good as the saloon does!

Detroit

The new C class at the Detroit motor show. First US models The C300 4MATIC is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 241 hp and 273 lb-ft. or the C400 4MATIC with a 3.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injection V6. It puts out 329 hp and 354 lb-ft. Both engines are matched to a seven-speed automatic transmission. Whot! ----- no clattery ol rough 4 cylinder diesel??
