W205/ S205 Wind Noise?

Well am taking my car into the dealership next week for them to check out the tyres will also mention the wind noise. If they suggest the seal option do you think they will be able to do it while I wait?

No idea, you're best to ask them before you go, but I doubt you'll have an answer until it's diagnosed

Hear what you say but not sure how they will diagnose as its either got wind noise or it hasn't - and I say it has so that it. Do you think there is another way they might diagnose without just taking my word for it?

Surely they'll need to drive it to see where exactly it's coming from?

Maybe but its at the top of both driver and passenger doors which assumed was the weak point for every other problem they have had of this type. Will see but I think with wind noise sometimes it depends of wind direction, speed etc.. so perhaps not always easy to replicate. Shall see next week.

Just had both front windows replaced with acoustic glass to fix this, will wait and see if this solves problem.

Just thought I should post back my outcome on the wind noise. Much better than expected!

Mentioned it at dealer when dropping off for service, when I collected they explained they road tested it and could hear it. Explained bulletin recommends to tape up various parts of the window and retest - if this fixes it then they can apply some felt to fix it.
If the noise remains, they replace the glass for acoustic.. in my case they told me it didn't fix it, so they had ordered the glass and booked me in to replace it. No hassle!

Pleased to report that I longer hear the wind noise / windows no longer sound open!

I can report the same response as Yogib after my car was booked into the local dealership - Acoustic glass ordered for front doors. I will let you know what the improvement is like once its fitted.
HI
My C220d has got the same thing problem , gone to Swindon Mercedes today and there can't hear anything . Who did you see ? and did the Acoustic glass help

thanks
Martin

Now 4 months since glass was replaced and i must say it is a revelation wind noise has gone completely.

Bought our C250d from Swindon the morning you were there!
Driving home
Didn’t notice a thing but after reading this thread I did notice a slight wind noise at 70mph. Not sure if it’s just me after reading this or if it’s an issue I should get looked at! I wouldn’t say it was horrendous but was noticeable.

My C350e suffers from it. The dealers have looked at it once, but blamed it on tyre noise! It's going back next week for a service so I've asked them to have another look/listen. It's more noticeable on a windy or blustery day and it sounds as though the window is fractionally open.

I Had glass replaced And it did improve. Driving in rain on the M62 last night the splashes from the wheels were annoyingly loud around the door area and I’m suspecting the issue is misaligned or poor seals around the door that’s at the root of all this.

there is a service bulletin all the dealers are aware of. Acoustic glass eliminates most of the noise....but it still remains noisier than I'd expect for the money

So,

Continuing my own theory that this is largely caused by poor door seals I did an in situ test today.

having travelled at circa 70mph in light rain recently I noted a lot of water noise hiss from the doors each had time I ran over wet spots in the road.

there are two sets of seals on each door access, one on the frame and one on the door.

these sit inside each other when the door is closed, theoretically providing a double seal.

however....

so I wet each seal and closed the door.

as expected it left a ring of water around the door and a similar ring of water on the frame where each seal meets the other surface.

what I did note is a very light touch of the seal against the door and body on the lower edges. in some places , 1 or 2 inch gaps where no water was present.

this would suggest the seals aren’t sealing properly and sound is travelling, esp at high speed when the seals deform due to pressure, up from the bottom of the door making it seem like noise is penetrating the entire door. This explains why I could never pinpoint exactly where on the door the noise was entering as it was the entire seal space carrying the noise.

sadly there is no treatment other than redesigned door seals which I believe I’ve read are being fitted.

time to go back to the dealer again...

#thebestornothing (except the door seals and cabin noises and a litany of other faults)

I mentioned this to my dealer but they stuck their fingers in their ears and went "blah-blah-blah-we can't hear you-blah-blah-blah".

Have you been able to identify/fix this problem? I have the same but it's intermittent but will bring to MB's attention as part of the 1st service check soon but it's a difficult one as no doubt when you want this to happen it wont!! So unless -on the day of service/road test- it manifests itself then the MB Technician is probably going to say ''what noise, sir?''

Nope. See the post above yours. No joy with it.
:wallbash:
So assume you will just 'live with it' so hope it's not too bad then as after a while you start to listen for things like this and eventually it will drive you mad....

The car was booked in today to the local MB dealer after I complained about the wind noise from the top of both front windows. I gave the service department guy a copy of the MB Technical Service Bulletin relating to W205 wind noise, but I need'nt have bothered because he was already aware of the fix and had ordered in a set of acoustic glass front windows.
These were fitted this morning along with making the other adjustments to the door and window seals, collected the car this afternoon, and problem solved!
No more excessive wind noise, it may not be as quiet as a Rolls Royce but it is now as good as son's A6 Avant.
Hi, Would you be able to give me some details about this SB relating to the wind noise as might be handy when I take it in to be checked out? Thanks:thumb:

It's most noticeable on the motorway, especially on a windy day. I don't do much motorway driving so it's not an everyday annoyance. If I was ploughing up and down the motorways everyday I would have put a brick through it!

This is version 2 there may be later versions
